The Medical and Health Recruitment Board (MHRB), Assam, under the Medical Education & Research Department, has released Advertisement No. MHRB/72/Faculty/2026/5004 for 492 faculty posts spread across 29 departments including Anatomy, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology and Emergency Medicine. Online applications opened on 16 July 2026 and doctors with the right postgraduate qualification and medical registration can apply for Registrar, Demonstrator or Resident Physician roles in government medical colleges across Assam. The vacancies span almost every specialty — from Anatomy and Physiology to Radiology, Emergency Medicine and Surgery — so doctors across a wide range of departments have a real chance this year. This is one of the largest medical faculty recruitment drives run by MHRB in recent years, with 33 posts reserved for Persons with Disabilities and a category-wise split covering UR, OBC/MOBC, SC, ST(P) and ST(H) candidates as per Assam's reservation policy.

Who Can Apply?

Your eligible qualification depends on which department you apply for. MHRB has grouped the 29 departments into three qualification categories — Broad Speciality, Super Speciality and Basic Science — so check carefully which one your department falls under before you apply.

Broad Speciality Departments

• You need MD, MS, DNB or MDS in the relevant specialty from a recognized institution.

Super Speciality Departments

• You need MD/DNB (Medical Super Speciality) or MS/DNB (Surgical Super Speciality).
• Preference may be given to candidates holding DM, M.Ch or DNB in the concerned super speciality.

Basic Science Departments (Anatomy, Bio-Chemistry, Physiology)

• Anatomy: MS (Anatomy) or M.Sc (Medical Anatomy) with Ph.D in Medical Anatomy.
• Bio-Chemistry: MD (Biochemistry) or M.Sc (Medical Biochemistry) with Ph.D in Medical Biochemistry.
• Physiology: MD (Physiology) or M.Sc (Medical Physiology) with Ph.D in Medical Physiology.

Medical Registration

• You must be registered with the Assam Council of Medical Registration, Medical Council of India, or National Medical Commission (not required for Basic Science departments, since those are non-clinical roles).

Age Limit

• You should be between 21 and 45 years old as on 1 January 2026 — that means you should be born on or before 1 January 2005, and on or after 2 January 1981.
• Age Relaxation: Persons with Disabilities (PwD) get a 10-year relaxation, irrespective of category, so PwD candidates born on or after 2 January 1971 can apply.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month under Academic Level-10 of the pay matrix.
• You will also get DA and other allowances as per Assam Government rules.

• General/UR: Rs. 250
• OBC/MOBC/SC/ST(P)/ST(H): Rs. 150
• PwD (with valid certificate): No fee
• Payment mode: Treasury Challan or Government Receipt Accounting System (GRAS)

How to Apply

1. Go to the NHM Assam recruitment portal at nhm.assam.gov.in.
2. Register with your basic details and create a login.
3. Fill in the online application form for the Registrar/Demonstrator/Resident Physician post you want, quoting Advertisement No. MHRB/72/Faculty/2026/5004.
4. Upload your MBBS, postgraduate qualification and medical registration certificates, along with your photo and signature.
5. Pay the application fee through Treasury Challan or GRAS, based on your category.
6. Submit the form and save or print a copy of the confirmation for your records.
