Apply for 1 JRF post in NIT Silchar. B.Tech/M.Tech Electrical Engg with GATE eligible. Salary Rs 37,000/month. Last date: 17 Aug 2026. Apply at nits.ac.in.

NIT Silchar is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for an ANRF-sponsored research project in the Department of Electrical Engineering. If you have a B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical Engineering with a valid GATE score, you can apply by email and post. The last date to apply is 17 August 2026. The salary is Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years, going up to Rs. 42,000 per month in the third year.

National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIT Silchar has released Advertisement No. NITS/Dean(R&C)/EE/701/03/2026 for 1 Junior Research Fellow post under an ANRF-funded research project titled "Development of Fast Fault Detection and Location Estimation Scheme for Low-Voltage DC Microgrids" in the Department of Electrical Engineering. The project is sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under sanction number ANRF/ECRG/2024/006246/ENS, and runs for three years with a performance review every 12 months. The project is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Biswajit Sahoo, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering. There is no written exam for this post — selection is through screening and a direct interview. Engineering graduates and postgraduates with a GATE score in Electrical Engineering should apply.

NIT Silchar is an Institute of National Importance located in Assam, and its Electrical Engineering department regularly undertakes sponsored research projects from national bodies like ANRF. Low-voltage DC microgrids are increasingly used in renewable energy setups, EV charging stations, and remote power systems, which makes fast and accurate fault detection critical for safe operation — this project aims to build practical algorithms that can be used in real microgrid installations.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering/Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a valid GATE score, OR M.E./M.Tech or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering/Electrical and Electronics Engineering (GATE-qualified candidates are given preference for the M.E./M.Tech route)
  • Desirable Experience: Basic knowledge of Power System Protection. Prior exposure to Microgrid Dynamics and Control, Renewables (Solar PV), Power Electronics Converters, or AI/ML Algorithms is an advantage but not mandatory

This JRF position gives you the chance to work on a live, funded microgrid protection project — a good fit if you want to build a research profile before pursuing a PhD or a career in the power sector. You will work directly under Dr. Biswajit Sahoo, gaining exposure to real fault-detection hardware and simulation tools used in DC microgrid research.

Age Limit

  • You should be up to 35 years old as on the closing date of application, 17 August 2026.
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC/Women/PwD candidates get relaxation on qualification and age as per Government of India rules.

Salary

  • You will get Rs. 37,000 per month as JRF for the first two years, and Rs. 42,000 per month as SRF (Senior Research Fellow) in the third year.
  • HRA at 10% is provided if Institute accommodation is not given to you.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection for this post is done in the following stages:

  1. Screening of Applications: The Institute has the discretion to restrict the number of candidates called for interview based on screening. No candidate is recruited if a suitable candidate is not found.
  2. Interview: The date, time, and venue of the interview will be notified directly to shortlisted candidates.

If you are already employed, you must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer at the time of interview. Selected candidates will have to sign an agreement at the time of joining. Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call for interview — the Institute follows a merit-based screening process and gives preference to candidates who show the strongest technical fit with the project's fault-detection and microgrid focus.

How to Apply

Follow these steps to apply, and make sure both your postal application and email reach the Institute before the deadline:

  1. Download the application format from the official notification at nits.ac.in.
  2. Fill in the application form with your personal details and educational qualifications, starting from Class X.
  3. Paste a recent passport-size colored photograph on the form.
  4. Attach your CV and photocopies of all relevant documents, including NET/GATE score cards if applicable.
  5. Send the filled application along with your CV by post to Dr. Biswajit Sahoo, Principal Investigator, Department of Electrical Engineering, NIT Silchar, Assam-788010.
  6. Also email a soft copy of the filled application, CV, and all documents to biswajitsahoo@ee.nits.ac.in before 17 August 2026.
