TISS Male Social Work Fellow Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post
Prayas is a well-known field action project of the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work at TISS. Started in 1990, Prayas works for the socio-legal and economic rehabilitation of people processed by the Criminal Justice System. This includes those at risk of being criminalized, exploited, or in destitute conditions. The selected fellow will work directly inside Kalyan District Prison on a one-year contract.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: Master in Social Work (MSW) from any recognized Institute or University
- Gender: Male candidates only — female staff are not allowed in the male prison as per prison rules
- Language: Fluency in spoken Hindi and English is required. Preference for candidates fluent in spoken Marathi
- Experience: Preference for candidates with prior experience in social work practice in the field of criminal justice
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with MS-Office, emails, and the internet
- Writing: Good ability in written English (preferably Marathi and Hindi too)
- Travel: Willingness to travel in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad District, and outside districts and states when needed
- Reservation: The post is unreserved, but candidates from reserved categories can apply
Age Limit
- Maximum Age: Below 35 years
- Age as on: 31 March 2026
- The institute may relax age limits in exceptional cases or for candidates already holding analogous positions in Government Departments, Research/Academic Institutions, or Industry
Salary
- Consolidated Salary: Rs. 30,000 per month
- This amount includes field work allowance
- Duration: Contract for up to 1 year, extendable based on satisfactory performance and requirement

Selection Process
There is no written exam for this post. Selection is based on:
- Shortlisting: Applications will be screened, and only shortlisted candidates will be called. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview call.
- Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Personal Interaction at TISS, Mumbai. You must attend in person — online interview requests will not be accepted.
- Document Verification: Bring xerox copies (self-attested) and original documents of your educational qualifications, work experience, and ID proof at the interview.
Note: If you are currently employed, you must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

Responsibilities
- Assist inmates at Kalyan District Prison with socio-legal and economic rehabilitation support
- Work with disadvantaged groups being processed by the Criminal Justice System
- Prepare case reports and documentation in English, Hindi, and Marathi
- Handle individual and group counselling sessions with prison inmates
- Coordinate with courts, legal aid services, and government departments for inmate welfare
- Travel to Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts for field work and case follow-ups
- Manage data and records using MS-Office, email, and internet tools
- Follow all prison rules and institutional guidelines while performing duties
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master in Social Work (MSW) from any recognized Institute/University
Preferred Qualification
Fluency in spoken Marathi; prior experience in social work practice in the field of criminal justice
Required Skills
Fluency in spoken Hindi and English, good written English, familiarity with MS-Office/emails/internet, ability to work in teams and independently
Age Limit
18 - 35 years (as on 31 Mar 2026)
