The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai is hiring a Consultant (Electrical) on a full-time contract basis. TIFR Consultant (Electrical) Recruitment 2026 - Advertisement No. 2026/7

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, and a Deemed-to-be-University, has invited online applications for the post of Consultant (Electrical) tenable at TIFR Mumbai. This is a contract-based engagement for retired Government/PSU engineers who have served in Pay Level-13. The position is part of TIFR's electrical maintenance and high-value retrofit project work. The contract runs for 1 year initially, extendable on yearly basis up to a maximum of 3 years.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from a reputed University or Institute.

Essential Experience

• You must be an Engineer from a Government Department / Autonomous Institution / State Body / PSU.
• You must have served in Pay Level-13 as per 7th CPC.
• Experience in construction, operation and maintenance of electrical substations, including HT and LT switchgear.
• Expertise in electrical maintenance and execution of high-value retrofit projects related to electrical installation.
• Essential experience in the tendering process, contract management and project execution.

Desirable Skills

• Up-to-date knowledge of Government of India rules and regulations
• Good written and oral communication skills
• High integrity and commitment to working long hours

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 62 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications (30 May 2026).
• No minimum age is specified — this post is meant for experienced engineers with Government / PSU service.

Salary

• Consolidated pay is last pay drawn minus pension, subject to a maximum of Rs. 90,000 per month — whichever is less.
• No HRA, TA or other allowances are payable.
• You must arrange your own accommodation in or around Mumbai — TIFR will not provide accommodation.
• You will be entitled only to casual leave as per Institute rules.

Selection Process

The selection is based on the application and an interview. The Institute may also conduct other tests if required:

1. Application Shortlisting: TIFR may restrict the number of candidates called for selection on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the prescribed minimum.
2. Interview / Skill Test / Written Test: The Institute reserves the right to conduct written tests, skill tests or interviews online or in person.
3. Document Verification: Originals of all certificates and experience proofs will be checked at the time of selection.

Outstation candidates called for interview will be paid single first class (non-AC) / III Tier AC return train fare by the shortest route, on production of original tickets.

• Monitor daily project progress and prepare progress reports
• Check bills submitted by agencies for payment approval
• Prepare reports on quality and safety during execution of work
• Coordinate with DAE units and local authorities for the project
• Handle any other matters referred by the Engineer In Charge, TSR or Dean Infrastructure
