ACTREC JRF Cancer Biology Recruitment 2026: Overview
Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), part of Tata Memorial Centre, is engaging a Junior Research Fellow for a Department of Biotechnology-funded extramural research project at its Kharghar campus. The work sits within a specialist cancer-research setting supported by the Department of Atomic Energy, giving the fellow direct exposure to a project built around patient-derived tumour cells rather than a general teaching-laboratory assignment.
The project examines whether Alpelisib can help restore cisplatin sensitivity in cells taken from platinum-resistant, recurrent high-grade serous ovarian cancer. Its focus connects treatment resistance with experimental cancer biology, so the appointment is especially relevant if you want to build hands-on research depth in a clinically important problem while working within an established oncology centre. The notice identifies this as a DBT-funded EMR project, and the position is tied to that defined research work.
Unlike a broad fellowship call, this notice is tied to one defined research question. Using patient-derived tumour cells keeps the study close to the biology of recurrent disease, while comparing cisplatin response with Alpelisib gives the project a clear treatment-sensitivity focus. That scope lets you follow a consistent line of evidence across laboratory observations instead of moving among unrelated studies. ACTREC's cancer-focused setting also places the work within the wider research and treatment environment of Tata Memorial Centre.
Laboratory continuity is an important part of this engagement. ACTREC wants the selected fellow to join at the earliest, which reflects the active timetable of the project and the need to keep experiments moving. The notification also gives preference to familiarity with genomics and transcriptomics analysis, showing that the study may connect wet-lab observations with broader molecular datasets. Your work will therefore support a research question that brings together drug response, tumour-cell models and molecular analysis.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: The initial engagement is for six months and may be extended. Continuation is not automatic and depends on the progress review conducted after the initial period.
- Early joining: ACTREC expects the selected person to join promptly. Candidates whose qualifying result is still awaited cannot be considered for this project appointment.
- Degree duration: A one-year M.Sc. programme is not accepted for this recruitment, even when its subject is otherwise related to biology.
- Place of work: The appointment is based at ACTREC, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai; it is not an all-India transferable recruitment drive.
