Tezpur University Field Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 4 Posts

Tezpur University, a Central University in Assam established by an Act of Parliament, is filling 4 temporary Field Assistant positions under Principal Investigator Dr. Amalesh Gope in the Department of Linguistics and Language Technology. The DRDO-sponsored project, titled "Creation of speech corpora for central Naga languages for LID task", involves recording and analysing spoken language data from Ao, Angami, Chokri, Kheza, Sangtam, Pochuri, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Phom, Chang and Khiamniungan speakers in Nagaland. Native speakers of these languages with basic linguistics knowledge will be preferred, and the role involves fieldwork travel to Nagaland. Beyond the recognition task, the project also aims to compile the most commonly used words (lexical items) from these languages along with their spelling and meaning.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need a BA or B.Sc in Linguistics, English or an allied subject from a recognised university.
  • Preferred: Experience recording speech data in the field, IPA transcription skills, and basic knowledge of grammar and phonology.
  • Native speakers of Ao, Angami, Chokri, Kheza, Sangtam, Pochuri, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Phom, Chang or Khiamniungan with basic linguistics knowledge will be preferred.

Age Limit

  • You should be below 35 years of age as on the date of the interview (30 July 2026).
  • Age Relaxation: Applicable as per Government of India rules for reserved categories.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get Rs. 20,000 per month (consolidated remuneration, excluding 18% GST).
  • This is a temporary position for an initial period of 1 year, extendable based on your performance and co-terminus with the project. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

Selection Process (Walk-In Interview – No Written Exam)

You will be selected through a walk-in interview — there is no written exam:

  1. Walk-in Interview: Appear before the Interview Board on 30 July 2026 at 10:00 AM with your original documents. The interview will be held in blended mode (offline, or online for outstation candidates as a special case).
  2. Document Verification: Your original mark sheets, certificates and CV will be verified by the selection committee.

If you are already employed or pursuing a PhD, you must bring a No Objection Certificate from your employer or PhD supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Organise and label collected speech corpora for the project database
  • Support the Principal Investigator with fieldwork logistics and documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of collected data and consent forms
