About This Job

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) Shillong Region is hiring PGT, TGT, Female Staff Nurse, Counselor and Hostel Superintendent on a purely contractual basis for the academic session 2026-27. If you have a Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in the relevant subject, you can register between 13 April and 28 April 2026 by emailing your registration form to the Venue Principal. Walk-in interviews will be held from 06 May to 09 May 2026 at designated Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the Northeast. No application fee. Salary ranges from Rs. 35,750 to Rs. 44,900 per month depending on the post.

NVS Shillong Contractual Teacher Recruitment 2026-27

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Regional Office Shillong, has released Ref No. 2-16/NVS(SHR)/Estt.I/133 dated 09 April 2026 for engagement of contractual teaching and non-teaching staff in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) under Shillong Region. These residential co-educational schools serve students from Class VI to XII across 8 Northeast states — Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The contract will last through the 2026-27 session or until the joining of regular staff, whichever is earlier. Free accommodation and meals on campus are provided along with the monthly salary.

Who Can Apply?

Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)

  • Master's Degree in the concerned subject from a recognised university with at least 50% marks
  • You must have studied the subject at graduation level too
  • B.Ed. from an NCTE recognised institution with at least 50% marks (OR Three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. or Four-year integrated degree with B.Ed. component)
  • Alternative: Integrated Post Graduate Course from NCTE recognised institution in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks including B.Ed. component

Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT)

  • Bachelor's/Honours Degree from a recognised university with at least 50% marks in the concerned subject combination
  • CTET Paper-II (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) qualification
  • B.Ed. from an NCTE recognised institution with at least 50% marks (OR integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.)
  • Alternative: Post-Graduation in concerned subject with minimum 55% marks + Three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.

Female Staff Nurse

  • B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing, OR Regular B.Sc. Nursing, OR Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognised university
  • Registered as Nurse or Nurse Mid-wife (RN or RM) with any State Nursing Council
  • 2.5 years of experience in a minimum 50-bedded hospital

Counselor

  • Master's Degree (M.A./M.Sc.) in Psychology from a recognised university
  • 1-Year Diploma in Guidance & Counselling from a recognised institution
  • At least 1 year of experience in Guidance & Counselling in educational institutes of Central/State/UT Government or Public Sector Undertakings

Hostel Superintendent

  • Graduation in any discipline (essential academic qualification)
  • Desirable: Master's degree or B.Ed.
  • Work Experience: Minimum 5 years at pay level 5 or above (7th CPC) in any recognised residential school, OR 7 years on consolidated pay not less than Rs. 29,200/month, OR Ex-Defence personnel with 5+ years at pay level 5 (JNV work experience may be reduced to 3 years)

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on 01 June 2026.

  • PGT / TGT / Female Staff Nurse: Maximum age is 50 years
  • Counselor: Between 28 and 50 years
  • Hostel Superintendent: Between 35 and 62 years
  • Ex-NVS / Superannuated Govt. School Teachers: Maximum age is 65 years
  • Note: Retired teachers up to 65 years may be engaged subject to fitness and willingness.

Salary

  • Post Graduate Teacher (PGT): Rs. 42,250 per month
  • Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT): Rs. 40,625 per month
  • Female Staff Nurse: Rs. 40,625 per month
  • Counselor: Rs. 44,900 per month
  • Hostel Superintendent: Rs. 35,750 per month
  • Additional perks: Free rent-free bachelor accommodation on JNV campus (subject to availability) + Free meals along with students
  • Salary is paid for a maximum of 10 months. Short-break payment is given in April on successful completion of the contract.

Application Fee

  • No application fee for any post or any category.
  • No TA/DA is paid for appearing in the walk-in interview.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is purely merit-based with no written exam. It has two stages:

  1. Shortlisting based on Qualification & Experience Weightage: Your academic marks, higher qualifications, relevant teaching/work experience are scored according to a detailed weightage table (75 marks for PGT/TGT; 60 marks for Staff Nurse and Hostel Superintendent; 70 marks for Counselor).
  2. Personal Interaction / Interview: 25 marks (PGT/TGT) or 40 marks (Staff Nurse, Hostel Superintendent, Counselor) covering pedagogy, subject knowledge, regional language proficiency, computer skills, and overall personality.

The Venue Principal will schedule your walk-in interview date (between 06 May and 09 May 2026) and notify you by 01 May 2026 through your registered email.

  2. Fill in your details carefully. No supporting documents are needed at the registration stage.
  3. Email your completed registration form to the Venue Principal's email address of the JNV assigned to your subject (see the venue list in the official notification).
  4. Submit your registration between 13 April 2026 and 28 April 2026.
  5. Wait for the Venue Principal to email you the interview date (by 01 May 2026).
  6. On your interview day, carry original certificates, mark sheets, self-attested photocopies, experience certificate, passport-size photo, and Government-issued ID proof (Voter ID, Aadhaar, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Teach the assigned subject(s) to Classes VI–XII students as per the NVS curriculum
  • Prepare lesson plans, study material, assignments and question papers for regular assessments
  • Participate in residential school duties including supervision of students during study hours and activities
  • Guide students in academic performance, career planning and personal development
  • Maintain attendance registers, student records and submit reports as required by the Principal
  • Work alongside regular NVS staff and follow directions of the Principal
  • Stay on campus and observe institutional discipline as required for residential school staff

For PGT: Master's Degree in concerned subject (min 50%) + B.Ed (min 50%) from NCTE recognised institution. For TGT: Bachelor's Degree in concerned subject (min 50%) + CTET Paper-II + B.Ed (min 50%). For Female Staff Nurse: B.Sc Nursing + State Nursing ...

Preferred Qualification

Experience in recognised residential school; higher qualifications (Ph.D/M.Phil/M.Ed); knowledge of regional language of NE states; computer application knowledge

There is no written exam for this recruitment. Selection is based on two stages:

  • PGT / TGT posts: Maximum 75 marks (40 for essential qualification + 10 for B.Ed + 10 for higher qualification + 15 for teaching experience)
  • Female Staff Nurse: Maximum 60 marks (40 for essential qualification + 10 for higher qualification + 10 for experience)
  • Counselor: Maximum 70 marks (academic marks + experience weightage)
  • Hostel Superintendent: Maximum 60 marks (academic marks + experience)

No written exam is held for this recruitment. Selection is based on qualification and experience weightage (academic marks + teaching experience marks) followed by a personal interaction / interview. There is also no application fee.
