IIT Roorkee JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is looking for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Department of Civil Engineering. You will work on a DRDO-sponsored research project titled "Centrifuge and Numerical Modelling of Underground Explosions in Soils" (project code DRD-3085-CED/25-26).

The project is led by Prof. Akanksha Tyagi as Principal Investigator, with Prof. M. Ashraf Iqbal of IIT Roorkee and Prof. Ashish Juneja of IIT Bombay as Co-Principal Investigators. Because two IITs are involved, your work will be split between soil testing and modelling at Roorkee and centrifuge experiments at IIT Bombay.

This is a contractual project position, not a permanent job. It suits a geotechnical engineer who wants hands-on research experience in centrifuge testing and numerical modelling, and it also opens a route into a PhD at IIT Roorkee under the project category. Only Indian nationals can apply.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The project runs till July 2029. Your engagement is tied to the project and ends with it.
• PhD enrolment: An eligible candidate may be enrolled as a PhD scholar (project category) at IIT Roorkee. When the project finishes, PhD scholars move to institute assistantship as per IIT Roorkee rules.
• Official enrolment: The selected candidate must be officially enrolled at IIT Roorkee.
• Work at IIT Bombay: The project pays for your travel and stay at IIT Bombay while you run the centrifuge tests there.
• Check eligibility first: Make sure you meet every requirement before you appear for the interview — the institute leaves this check to you.
• Online interview: The interview is held online on Webex. Only candidates shortlisted after the initial screening get the link.
• No travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
• Original documents: You may be asked to show your original degrees and experience certificates during the interview for verification.
