IIT Roorkee JRF and SRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is looking for one Junior Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow in its Department of Civil Engineering. The fellow will work under Prof. Akanksha Tyagi, the Principal Investigator, on a DRDO-sponsored project titled "Centrifuge and Numerical Modelling of Underground Explosions in Soils".

The project studies how soil behaves when an explosion happens below the ground. It mixes laboratory soil testing, centrifuge model tests and computer simulation, so it suits a geotechnical engineering postgraduate with a GATE score who wants serious hands-on research experience. This is a project-based contract position, not a permanent institute job.

One big plus: the selected candidate may get an opportunity for PhD admission, so this fellowship can double as a stepping stone into doctoral research.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Indian nationals only: The position is open only to Indian citizens.
• Tenure: The project position runs for 3 years.
• Work at IIT Bombay: Part of the job is running centrifuge tests at IIT Bombay, so expect some of your experiments to happen outside Roorkee.
• Reservation note: SC/ST candidates get preference when qualifications and experience are equal.
• Check eligibility first: The notice asks you to make sure you meet the degree and CGPA cut-offs before you apply and appear for the interview.
• Interview day: Bring your original degree and experience certificates for verification. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
