IIT Roorkee Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is looking for one Post-Doctoral Fellow for a research project titled Development of an Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) for Granular Flows in OpenFOAM. You will work under the mentorship of Prof. Ankit Bansal. This is a full-time, two-year project position, not a permanent faculty job. It suits a fresh Ph.D. holder in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) who already writes C++ code for OpenFOAM and wants high-impact publications.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Publication record: You must already have 2-3 first-author papers in SCI-indexed journals from your Ph.D. work on compressible flows.
  • Research focus: Your Ph.D. must be in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with a CFD focus, and you need hands-on expertise in gas dynamics, reactive flows, C++ and OpenFOAM.
  • Academic duties: Besides the project, you will mentor UG and PG students and join research discussions as the mentor decides.
  • Joining: You are expected to join as soon as the offer letter is released.
  • Student status: Post-Doctoral Fellows are registered as students and can use the library, computer centre and hospital facilities.
  • Leave: 2.5 days per completed month; unused leave does not carry over beyond the calendar year.
  • Temporary position: The PDF position is purely temporary, and it ends with the two-year project term.

Application Submission Notes

You apply only through the Google Form linked in the advertisement, entering your academic and Ph.D. details. You must be signed in to a Google account to fill it. Submitting the form does not guarantee a call — only shortlisted candidates are contacted for the interview.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) solver for granular flows in OpenFOAM
  • Write and test C++ code for CFD simulations of compressible and reactive flows
  • Publish research results in high-impact journals
  • Mentor UG and PG students in the research group
  • Take part in research discussions and other academic work assigned by the mentor
