IIT Delhi Principal Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is hiring a Principal Project Scientist for its School of Public Policy. The post sits under the project Support to IIT Delhi for Enhancing India's Science Technology Policy Analysis Capabilities (RP04981N), funded by the R D Tata Trust, Mumbai and led by Prof. Ambuj D. Sagar.

This is a senior contractual research role recruited through the institute's Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit under Advertisement No. IITD/IRD/304/2026. The work centres on climate policy, sustainability transitions and low-carbon development, in India and globally. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: Contractual with a consolidated pay, renewed every year or up to the end of the project, whichever comes first.
• Project tenure: The project runs up to 28 February 2030; the post does not continue beyond the project.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
• Marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
• Retired government employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the pay is fixed as per prevailing IRD norms.
• Shortlisting: IIT Delhi can set higher criteria than the advertised ones to shortlist candidates, and only shortlisted candidates are called for the online interview.
