IIT Delhi Principal Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), through its Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit, is hiring a Principal Project Scientist for a sponsored project in the Department of Electrical Engineering. The project is called Radar-LiDAR Inertial Odometry (project code RM00082N) and is funded by Larsen & Toubro Precision Engineering & Systems, Mumbai. It is led by Prof. Brejesh Lall, who is also the person you send your application to.

This is a senior, contract-based project role on the IIT Delhi campus at Hauz Khas, New Delhi — not a regular faculty or staff post. The project is planned to run until January 2028. If you have spent years working on radar, LiDAR, sensor fusion or navigation systems, this industry-funded research post lets you apply that experience to a live engineering problem. The notice says hands-on experience in sensing and wireless communication will give you an edge.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Who can apply: Only Indian nationals are invited for this project appointment.
• Nature of the job: You are paid a consolidated monthly amount on a contract. The contract is renewed every year after a performance review, or runs for the length of the project, whichever ends first.
• Shortlisting: IIT Delhi may set higher criteria than the advertised minimum to shortlist candidates. Meeting the basic qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
• Interview mode: The interview is held online. Shortlisted names and interview details are posted on the IRD shortlist page, and only shortlisted candidates are contacted.
• Marks relaxation: SC and ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in the required marks.
• Retired government employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the salary is fixed under the prevailing IRD norms rather than the advertised slab.
