North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Project Technical Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, is recruiting contractual staff for the NDUS-2025 project — a nationwide survey mapping drug use patterns across Indian states, commissioned by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE) and coordinated by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), AIIMS New Delhi. The selected candidate will work under the Department of Psychiatry, NEIGRIHMS, and assist in conducting the survey across the state of Meghalaya, helping shape public health and de-addiction policy. This is a walk-in recruitment — there is no online application process for this post.

The National Survey on Extent and Pattern of Substance Use in India (NDUS) builds on earlier national assessments to map how drug use patterns are changing across states, helping the government design better prevention, treatment and de-addiction policies. NEIGRIHMS is the partner institution running the Meghalaya leg of this survey, working under the technical guidance of NDDTC, AIIMS New Delhi. This is a good opportunity for candidates interested in public health research and field-based data collection to gain hands-on experience with a national-level government survey.

Who Can Apply?

NEIGRIHMS is looking for candidates with a background in social sciences or public health who can work independently in the field. Here is what you need:

  • Qualification: A three-year graduate degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Statistics, Population Studies, Psychiatric Nursing or any allied health/social science discipline, along with 3 years of post-qualification experience. A postgraduate degree in the same subjects also qualifies without the extra experience requirement.
  • Desirable Experience: Prior research experience in mental health or addictive disorders, and knowledge of computer-based data processing and statistics packages.
  • Nature of Work: You will assist the regional investigators in implementing project activities in Meghalaya, coordinate capacity-building activities in the state, and support state-level training programmes for the survey field teams.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit is 35 years, with age relaxation as per government rules.
  • The crucial date for checking your age, qualification and experience is the date of the interview (9 September 2026).
  • The initial appointment is for six months and may be extended depending on project requirements, availability of funds, and your performance.

Salary

  • You will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 28,000 per month plus HRA as admissible, subject to the approved project budget.
  • No other allowances or facilities beyond the consolidated salary and HRA will be given.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
  • The appointment is purely temporary and contractual — it does not entitle you to any claim for regular appointment at NEIGRIHMS.
  • This pay is fixed as per ICMR project norms for a Project Technical Support-III / Technical Assistant post — there is no separate government pay scale or grade pay for this contractual position.

Selection Process (Walk-in Interview)

Since only 1 vacancy is open for this post, NEIGRIHMS will select the strongest candidate through the following process:

  1. Registration: Report between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM on the interview day with your application and documents.
  2. Written Test (if required): If the recruitment committee decides to hold a written test, the top 10 candidates will be shortlisted for the interview.
  3. Interview: Interviews will start from 12:00 Noon onwards on the same day.

Just meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee you will be called or selected. Your performance will also be reviewed after joining through an Employee Performance Indicator, and the appointment can be ended without prior notice if your work is not found satisfactory.

How to Apply

  1. Prepare a standard application form and CV on plain paper mentioning all your qualifications and experience.
  2. Collect original documents for qualification, age and experience proof, plus one self-attested photocopy set and a passport-size photo.
