NEC Research Officer (Industries) Recruitment 2026: Overview

The North Eastern Council (NEC) Secretariat in Shillong, which works under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), wants an experienced officer for the post of Research Officer (Industries). This is not a direct recruitment: the post is filled on deputation (including short-term contract), or on deputation followed by re-employment for Armed Forces officers, as per the post's Recruitment Rules. You will work in the industries wing, helping the Director (Tourism and Industries) on industrial promotion across the North Eastern Region.

The vacancy suits officers already serving in Central or State Governments, Union Territory administrations, PSUs, autonomous or statutory bodies, recognised universities or research institutes who hold an analogous post or have enough regular service in the feeder grades. You also need a graduate degree and real field experience in promoting and developing industries.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Feeder grades: You qualify if you hold an analogous post on a regular basis, or have the required years of regular service in the two feeder grades named in the notice (or equivalent) in your parent cadre.
• Armed Forces officers: Officers of the rank of Lieutenant or equivalent who are due to retire or move to the reserve within one year can apply. They serve on deputation terms until release and may then continue on re-employment terms up to the civil superannuation age.
• Deputation tenure: The deputation period, counting any immediately preceding ex-cadre deputation, should ordinarily not exceed three years.
• Pay and terms: Deputation pay and other terms follow DoPT OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 17.06.2010, as amended.
• Type of engagement: Officers of Central or State Governments are eligible only for absorption as per the form, while candidates from non-government organisations are eligible only for short-term contract.
• No withdrawal: Once you apply, you will not be allowed to withdraw your candidature.
• Selection: Your CV and supporting documents are assessed by a Selection Committee.

You cannot apply directly. Fill in the Curriculum Vitae Proforma (Annexure-II) available on the NEC website, sign it, and get it countersigned and sealed by your Cadre or Appointing Authority. Your Cadre Authority or Head of Department then forwards it to the NEC Secretariat along with your ACRs and the integrity, vigilance, penalty, cadre clearance and correctness certificates.
