IITK Project Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is hiring a Project Post-Doctoral Fellow through the Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs (DOAA), with Dr. Debopam Das as the principal investigator. The role has an unusual double focus. On one side, you help install a wind and solar hybrid field laboratory and set up an energy technology lab in Ladakh.

On the other side, you run the admissions and student office work for Sindhu Central University (SCU) students who are placed at IIT Kanpur — registration, records, results and coordination with campus offices such as DOAA, DOSA, hostels and the health centre. It suits a PhD holder in mechanical, aerospace, electrical or energy engineering who enjoys hands-on field work as much as organising people and paperwork.

The research side calls for real lab skills: wind and hydro turbines, force measurement, flow visualisation, wind tunnel testing and particle image velocimetry (PIV). The office side calls for strong project management, clear writing and comfort with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Project tenure: the position currently runs till 31 March 2029 and is linked to the project.
• Pay fixed by norms: where you land within the salary range depends on IIT Kanpur norms and your experience.
• Field work in Ladakh: the laboratory setup happens in Ladakh, so be ready for field installation work there alongside the SCU office work at IIT Kanpur.
• Research record matters: beyond the PhD, you need an excellent track record with publications or patents in an area relevant to the project.
• Late applications: forms received after the closing date are not considered.
• No travel allowance: no TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
