IIT Kanpur Project Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is hiring Project Engineers for a sponsored research project in its Department of Mechanical Engineering, led by Dr. Sarvesh Mishra, Assistant Professor. The project works closely with industrial partners, so the role mixes lab work at IIT Kanpur with field visits to industrial plants for data collection, sensor deployment and testing.
The work sits around multi-sensor fusion, wear monitoring, thermal imaging, metal forming and optimization algorithms. If you hold an M.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering and have hands-on exposure to any of these areas, your profile fits what the project team is looking for. Fresh M.Tech graduates can also apply, since the domain experience is listed as desirable, not essential.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project-linked post: The position is temporary and ends with the project. It does not lead to a regular IIT Kanpur job.
- Tenure: You are first engaged for one year, and the term can be stretched by up to two more years if your work is rated satisfactory.
- Travel: You must be willing to travel to industrial plant sites for data collection, sensor deployment and field testing.
- Recommendation letters: Shortlisted candidates are contacted by email and asked to send recommendation letters before the interview.
- Online interview: The interview is held online, so you do not need to travel to Kanpur for it.
