JIPMER PReMI Study Project Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry is hiring project staff for the PReMI Study, a research project funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). PReMI stands for Preventing Premature Myocardial Infarction — a trial that tests a community and digital programme, designed together with local people, to lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes among young high-risk adults in South India.

The project is led by Dr Venkatachalam J of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine. This is a contract job tied to the project, likely to run for three years. Most of the work happens out in the community — household screening, follow-up visits and referrals to primary health centres (PHCs) — so fluent Tamil and a two-wheeler matter for the field posts.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Technical Support-III: the senior field coordinator role. It suits a postgraduate in public health or epidemiology, or a graduate who already has field experience in a related subject. Community research, PHC work or NCD programme experience gives you an edge.
• Project Technical Support-II: the data management role of the study. It fits a graduate or diploma holder with hands-on experience and strong MS Excel skills; experience with electronic data capture tools is a plus.
• Project Nurse-II: the hands-on community health role, open to B.Sc Nursing or B.Sc MLT graduates or diploma holders with experience. Prior work in blood pressure checks, body measurements and blood sample collection is preferred.

Post-wise Duties

Project Technical Support-III

You will run the day-to-day field operations of the study. That means supervising field staff, helping with household screening and participant recruitment, tracking how the study interventions and follow-ups are delivered, and managing the digital messaging system used to stay in touch with participants. You also keep field logistics and records in order and make sure data comes in complete and on time.

Project Technical Support-II

You will look after the study databases and digital data capture tools. Your daily work covers checking and cleaning entered data, spotting gaps or inconsistencies, and preparing clean datasets for statistical analysis, along with routine data reports.

Project Nurse-II

You will visit homes to collect data, check blood pressure and body measurements, and draw blood samples as per the study protocol. You will also follow up with participants, offer counselling, and refer anyone with abnormal results to the nearest PHC.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project-linked contract: the job lasts only as long as the project and its external funding, and it gives you no claim to a regular JIPMER post.
• Extension or early end: the Project Investigator can extend or cut short the engagement.
• Consolidated pay only: no other allowances or facilities are given, and the consolidated amount may change over time.
• PhD option (Project Technical Support-III): the post may count towards JIPMER's extramural project PhD stream. Mention in your application if you are interested — selection for the job does not guarantee a PhD seat, which needs institute approval, a separate written exam and the PI's consent.
• Experience rules: experience must be in a relevant field from a reputed institution and must come after you earned the essential qualification.
• Stricter shortlisting: if many people apply, the PI may use tougher criteria than those in the notice. The PI may also relax or change the qualification and experience terms.
• Interview mode: interviews may be in person or by video call; for an online interview you must arrange a device with camera, audio and a stable internet connection. No TA/DA is paid.
• False information: wrong details or canvassing lead to disqualification, or termination if found after joining.
