JIPMER Project Research Scientist-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, is hiring a Project Research Scientist-I (Medical) for the SAFE-FEED Trial, a multicentre newborn-feeding study funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under Project ID ICMR/2026/02804. The project is led by Dr. Usha Devi. R of the Department of Neonatology, and JIPMER acts as the coordinating centre for all the sites taking part.

This is a contract post tied to the project, expected to run for about 24 months. You will be the person who keeps the whole trial on track — training investigators at partner hospitals, checking that every centre follows the same protocol, and watching data quality and randomisation. Doctors with an MBBS, MD or PhD who have already worked on clinical trials, especially in neonatal or paediatric research, will find this role a strong fit.

The notice also mentions that the post may be considered for JIPMER's Extramural PhD stream. Selection for the job does not guarantee a PhD seat — that needs a separate written exam, institute clearance and the PI's approval.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project-only engagement: The post lasts only as long as the externally funded project, and you get no claim to any regular post at JIPMER.
• Extension or early end: The Project Investigator can extend or cut short the engagement.
• Travel across India: You must be willing to travel to the participating centres across India for investigator training, site initiation and other study work.
• Experience rules: Your experience must be in a relevant field at a reputed institution and must have been gained after your essential degree.
• Pay terms: The consolidated pay can change over time. The pay table adds HRA as admissible, while the general terms say no other allowance beyond the consolidated pay is given — check this with the project office if HRA matters to you.
• Stricter shortlisting: If many people apply, the PI may use tougher criteria than the ones listed. The PI may also relax or alter qualifications and terms.
• Interview mode: The interview may be in person or by video call. For a video interview you must arrange a device with camera, audio and a stable internet connection yourself.
• No travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
• False information: Wrong details or canvassing lead to disqualification, or termination if found after you join.

• Help the Principal Investigator with budget tracking, financial statements, utilisation reports and procurement
• Travel to partner centres across India for training and study visits
• Contribute to data analysis, scientific reports and publications from the trial
