IIA Library Trainee Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is taking on a Library Trainee at its main campus in Koramangala, Bengaluru. IIA is a national research institute for astronomy and astrophysics, with a second campus (CREST) at Hosakote and field stations at Kavalur, Kodaikanal, Gauribidanur and Leh/Hanle.

This is a hands-on traineeship in library and archives work, not a regular government job. You get real practice with modern library services and archival methods inside a working research library. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of engagement: The traineeship is purely temporary and on contract. It gives you no claim to regular employment or the benefits of a permanent post at IIA.
• Tenure: You start with one year. IIA can extend it year by year up to five years in total, based on your performance and the project's needs, reviewed every year.
• Consolidated pay: The monthly amount is fixed and includes all allowances; a yearly raise is given only on satisfactory performance.
• Posting: You will work at IIA Bengaluru, but the institute can post you anywhere in India as per its needs.
• Shortlisting: If many people apply, IIA may hold a written test before the interview, or call only candidates with qualifications above the minimum.
• Cut-off date: Your upper age limit, qualifications and experience are counted as on the closing date for applications.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
• Waitlist: IIA may keep a merit-order waitlist and use it for further needs during the year. It can also raise or cut the number of posts.
• Conduct: Canvassing in any form disqualifies you, and any false information found at any stage cancels your candidature without notice.
