About This Job

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is filling up 1 vacant post of Deputy Director (Law) at NCB Headquarters, New Delhi on deputation basis, including short-term contract (ISTC). The post is in Level-12 (Rs. 78,800 - 2,09,200) of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. NCB Deputy Director (Law) Recruitment 2025 - 1 Post

This is a high-profile legal position at NCB Headquarters, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi. The officer selected will handle legal work related to the NDPS Act and criminal cases being prosecuted by the Bureau. Recruitment is 100% by deputation, so only serving government Law Officers and Public Prosecutors are eligible. Vide File No. II/4(5)/2025/Estt.(Pers-I)-774.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply only if you are a serving officer in one of the following:

  • Law Officers from Central Government or Central Govt. agencies like NIA, CBI, ED etc.
  • Public Prosecutors of State Government or Union Territories
  • Officers of Autonomous or Statutory Organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, recognized Universities or recognized research institutions

Service eligibility (any one):

  • Holding analogous posts on regular basis in the parent cadre/department, OR
  • 5 years regular service in Level-11 of the Pay Matrix, OR
  • 7 years regular service in Level-10 of the Pay Matrix

Essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University
  • 10 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases

Desirable: 5 years experience as Advocate in conducting NDPS cases.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 56 years on the closing date of receipt of applications
  • Period of deputation (including STC) in another ex-cadre post shall not exceed 04 (four) years

Salary

  • Pay scale: PB-3 Rs. 15600-39100 + Grade Pay Rs. 7600 (pre-revised)
  • 7th CPC: Level-12, Rs. 78,800 - 2,09,200 per month
  • Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules

Selection Process

  2. Assessment by Selection Committee based on bio-data, qualifications, APARs and work experience
  3. No Written Exam - selection is through deputation channel only

Responsibilities

  • Handle legal matters and court cases related to the NDPS Act at NCB Headquarters
  • Provide legal advice to NCB officers on investigations and prosecutions
  • Prepare and vet complaints, replies, appeals and petitions in NDPS cases
  • Coordinate with Public Prosecutors and Law Officers across zonal units
  • Assist in drafting SOPs, notifications and legal opinions under NDPS law
  • Represent NCB in legal consultations with MHA and other agencies
  • Monitor case outcomes and maintain legal records for the Bureau

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized University with 10 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases. Must be a serving Law Officer / Public Prosecutor eligible for deputation.

Preferred Qualification

5 years experience as Advocate in conducting NDPS cases
