About This Job

Apply for 83 Technician B, Technical Assistant and officer posts in SCL. ITI/Diploma/Graduate eligible. Salary: Rs 21,700-1,77,500. Last date: 30 Nov 2026.

SCL Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is filling administrative and technical posts on a regular basis at its campus in Sector 72, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Punjab. SCL is the country's only integrated device manufacturing facility — it designs, fabricates, packages and tests ASICs, opto-electronic devices and MEMS chips under one roof.

The drive covers four administrative posts and two technical posts spread over twenty-three trades and disciplines. It is a rare way into India's chip-making sector for ITI holders, diploma engineers, science graduates, stenographers and experienced administrators alike.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Administrative Officer: runs establishment matters, transport, estate and general administration at a supervisory level.
  • Accounts Officer: looks after finance and accounts, audit, finalisation of accounts, staff benefit settlements, income tax TDS and GST work.
  • Purchase and Stores Officer: handles procurement of goods and services, imports, local purchase and stores management.
  • Junior Personal Assistant: a stenography post open to Class 12 pass candidates who can take shorthand dictation and transcribe it on a computer.
  • Technical Assistant: eleven disciplines — Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Information Technology, Civil, Chemical, Fire and Safety, Physics and Chemistry. Electronics has the largest share of seats.
  • Technician 'B': twelve ITI trades — Fitter, ICT System Maintenance, Electrician, Electronics, Electronics Mechanic, Instrumentation, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Draughtsman (Civil), Draughtsman (Mechanical), Fire and Safety, Plumber and Mechanic (Diesel).

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Place of work: Your first posting is at SCL, S.A.S. Nagar, but SCL can post you anywhere in India when needed.
  • Shift duty: Technical appointees can be asked to work round-the-clock shifts.
  • Pension: You will be covered by the National Pension System (NPS).
  • One administrative post only: You can apply for just one of the four administrative posts.
  • Both technical posts allowed: You can apply for Technical Assistant and Technician 'B' together (one trade each), but you need two separate applications and two fees.
  • Separate cadres: Administrative and technical posts are separate cadres; a technical degree gives no claim to an administrative post, and the other way round.
  • MBA rule: Only the MBA specialisations named for each officer post are accepted — any other MBA makes you ineligible.
  • Experience: It must be gained after your essential qualification, in a government office, public body or reputed commercial organisation.
  • Fixed cut-off: The cut-off for age and qualification stays the original closing date even if the deadline is extended.
  • Serving employees: Apply through your employer and bring a No Objection Certificate to the skill test or interview, or you will not be allowed in.
  • Travel support: Outstation candidates called for the skill test or interview get sleeper-class train or ordinary bus fare; nothing is paid for the computer-based test.
  • Nature of post: The posts are temporary but likely to continue, which is standard wording for regular government posts.

Qualifying marks: 50% for UR and 40% for PwBD candidates. Shortlisted candidates (1:5 ratio) then face a personal interview, and the final panel uses CBT and interview marks in a 60:40 ratio.

Next comes a stenography skill test: a 10-minute dictation at 80 words per minute in Pitman shorthand, transcribed on computer in 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi). You can make at most 10% mistakes (UR) or 12% (reserved categories). Final merit uses CBT marks only.

Technical Assistant and Technician 'B'

You take the same two-part CBT: Part A general paper (100 questions, 60 minutes) and a trade-wise Part B (100 questions, 60 minutes). Qualifying marks are 50% for UR, 45% for OBC (NCL)/EWS and 40% for SC/ST/PwBD/ESM.

Shortlisted candidates then sit a trade-wise skill test on a go/no-go basis. Final merit uses CBT marks only.

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.

Exam Type: Objective (MCQ), computer-based
