AIIMS Delhi Junior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi is running a special recruitment drive for Junior Residents to fill seats left empty from the July 2026 session. These are short engagements that last only for the remaining tenure up to 31 December 2026, so the drive suits recent MBBS graduates who want a few months of residency experience at India's top medical institute before the next session.

The openings are spread across 14 departments, including units at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre (JPNATC) and the National Centre for Ageing (NCA). There is no written test: AIIMS will rank you on your INI-CET (July 2026) rank and your MBBS aggregate, or your FMGE score if you studied abroad, and then call you for counselling.

Posts and Disciplines

• Emergency Medicine: posts at both the main hospital and the JPNATC trauma centre. This department has by far the largest share of seats in the drive.
• Trauma Centre (JPNATC) departments: Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics and Transfusion Medicine, all based at the apex trauma centre.
• National Centre for Ageing (NCA): Geriatric Medicine and Orthopaedics posts serving elderly patients.
• Super-speciality departments: Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Rheumatology, and Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery at the main campus.
• Paediatrics (Casualty): posts in the children's emergency service.

Most seats are reserved for OBC, SC and ST candidates, and only a handful are unreserved. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities get 4% horizontal reservation within their own category, after a check by a medical board.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Short tenure: The appointment ends on 31 December 2026; it is not a full residency term.
• Medical registration: A permanent Delhi Medical Council or State Medical Council registration is compulsory when you join.
• Original documents kept: AIIMS keeps your MBBS degree and registration certificate until your tenure ends, or until you resign and clear all no-dues.
• Joining: Joining happens on working days only and no extension is given. If you are allotted a seat and do not join, you pay a penalty of one month's salary to get your original documents back.
• Resignation: You must give one month's notice (15 days in December); any shortfall is charged as a penalty.
• Vacancies can change: The seat numbers are provisional and may change at the time of selection.
• OBC (NCL) and EWS certificates: They must be based on financial year 2025-26 income and issued between 1 April 2026 and 31 October 2026.
• Other terms: Everything else follows the July 2026 Junior Resident advertisement.

Download the application form from aiimsexams.ac.in. Only a physical form is accepted: hand it in with your documents at the Academic Section-II, AIIMS, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi before 5:00 PM on the closing day. Late or incomplete forms are rejected.

AIIMS will not send any separate call letter for counselling except by email, so keep checking your inbox and the website. Bring all your original certificates to counselling; without them you cannot take part.
