Who Can Apply?

For Scientist/Engineer SD (Post Code 01):

  • Qualification: You need a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Earth Science, or Environmental Science from a recognized university.
  • You also need an M.Sc. or MS in the same subjects with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • Desirable: Expertise in air quality observations and modeling, climate modeling, parallel programming, or high-performance computing.

For Scientist/Engineer SC (Post Code 02):

  • Qualification: You need an M.E./M.Tech degree in RF, Microwave, and Communication System Engineering with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.
  • Plus a B.E./B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering with at least 65% marks.
  • Desirable: Expertise in radar system engineering.

For Junior Research Fellow (Post Code 01 - JRF):

  • Qualification (Science stream): Post Graduate degree (M.Sc.) in Physics, Atmospheric Science, Space Physics, Meteorology, Earth System Sciences, Geophysics, Remote Sensing, or Applied Chemistry with a relevant major subject. Minimum 65% aggregate marks required.
  • Qualification (Engineering stream): M.E./M.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Communication Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or Instrumentation Engineering. Minimum 60% aggregate marks required.
  • Mandatory: You must have qualified in CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, JAM, or JEST.
  • Final-year students who have appeared in their exams are also eligible to apply, but they must produce their marksheet at the time of interview.
  • The JRF position is meant for carrying out research leading to a Ph.D. degree.

Age Limit

  • Scientist/Engineer SD: Maximum 35 years as on 27 April 2026.
  • Scientist/Engineer SC: Maximum 30 years as on 27 April 2026.
  • Junior Research Fellow: Preferably 28 years as on 27 April 2026.
  • Age Relaxation: Upper age limit relaxation is available for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities), and Ex-Servicemen candidates as per Government of India orders.

Salary

  • Scientist/Engineer SD: Basic Pay of Rs. 67,700 per month in Level 11 (Pay Range: Rs. 67,700 - Rs. 2,08,700). Plus Transport Allowance and House Rent Allowance.
  • Scientist/Engineer SC: Basic Pay of Rs. 56,100 per month in Level 10 (Pay Range: Rs. 56,100 - Rs. 1,77,500). Plus Transport Allowance and House Rent Allowance.
  • Junior Research Fellow: Fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month for the 1st and 2nd year, and Rs. 42,000 per month for subsequent years. HRA is paid if hostel facility is not availed.
  • Scientist/Engineer posts are governed by the New Defined Contribution Pension Scheme.
  • Additional benefits include medical facilities for self and dependents, subsidized canteen, Leave Travel Concession, Group Insurance, and advances for vehicle purchase and house construction.
