The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India, has released Advertisement No. NESAC/RMT-TEMP/WI-02/2026 dated 17 July 2026 for 16 temporary project positions spread across geology, computer science, disaster management, forestry, and atmospheric science. All posts are filled purely through a walk-in interview — there is no written test. Who Can Apply?

Research Scientist (Rs. 56,100/month):

  • You need a Ph.D. or First Class M.Sc./M.Tech in a relevant field such as Geology, Applied Geology, Geophysics, Earth Science, Computer Science & Engineering, Disaster Management, Geography, Botany, Forestry, Environmental Science, Physics, Meteorology, or Atmospheric Science (post-specific — see advertisement).
  • You also need at least 1 year of research/work experience in the relevant field unless you hold a Ph.D.

Junior Research Fellow (Rs. 37,000/month):

  • You need a First Class M.Sc./M.Tech in a relevant science/engineering discipline (Forestry, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing & GIS, Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, Electronics, Atmospheric Science, or equivalent).
  • You must also have qualified NET, GATE, JAM, JEST/JGEEBILS, or AICE in the relevant field.

Project Associate-I (Rs. 31,000/month):

  • You need a First Class M.Sc. in Botany, Forestry, or Environmental Science, plus at least 1 year of experience in plant identification/taxonomy.

General qualification benchmark: M.E./M.Tech candidates need a minimum of 60% marks (average of all semesters) or CGPA 6.5/10. B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc candidates need a minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10.

Age Limit

  • Research Scientist (M.Sc-based posts): up to 28 years as on the date of interview.
  • Research Scientist (M.Tech-based posts): up to 30 years as on the date of interview.
  • Junior Research Fellow: up to 28 years as on the date of interview.
  • Project Associate-I: up to 35 years as on the date of interview.
  • Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates. Ex-servicemen and Persons with Disabilities get relaxation as per Government of India rules.

Salary

  • Research Scientist: Rs. 56,100 per month, plus DA, HRA and medical benefits for self.
  • Junior Research Fellow: Rs. 37,000 per month fellowship, plus HRA (where applicable) and medical benefits for self.
  • Project Associate-I: Rs. 31,000 per month, plus HRA and medical benefits for self.
  • All positions are temporary and project-linked — selected candidates are not entitled to any benefits admissible to regular employees.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

NESAC selects candidates purely on interview performance:

  1. Document Screening: Bring your Biodata (in NESAC's prescribed format) plus original certificates and self-attested photocopies to the venue.
  2. Walk-in Interview: Held at NESAC, Umiam, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya on 10, 11 or 12 August 2026 (date depends on your post code).

Meeting the minimum qualification does not automatically make you eligible for the interview — NESAC screens applications before shortlisting.
