About This Job
Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is hiring 4 Hindi Translators (Grade II) through direct recruitment on a regular basis. This is a Class III permanent government post with a starting basic pay of Rs. 41,800 per month in the pay scale of Rs. 41,800–1,17,600. Your total take-home will be around Rs. 48,000 per month plus HRA (if you don't live in MbPA quarters). The last date to send your application by post is 30 April 2026.

Mumbai Port Authority, one of India's oldest and most prominent major port trusts located in Mumbai, has issued Advertisement No. DR-16 dated 06 April 2026 for filling 4 posts of Hindi Translator Grade II. If you hold a university degree with Hindi and English as elective subjects and have 2 years of translation experience, this is a solid permanent central government job with good pay and allowances.

Who Can Apply?
You need to meet both of the following criteria, as on 1 April 2026:
- Education: A degree from a recognised university with Hindi and English as elective subjects.
- Experience: 2 years' experience in translation work from English to Hindi and vice versa.
Your degree, marksheet, and experience certificate must all be valid as on 1 April 2026.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 30 years as on 1 April 2026.
- Scheduled Tribe (ST): 5 years relaxation (upper limit 35 years)
- Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): 10 years relaxation (upper limit 40 years)
- Ex-servicemen: Deduction of actual military service period from age; resultant age must not exceed the prescribed limit by more than 3 years
- Existing employees of any Major Port Authority: Up to 55 years of age
Salary
- Basic Pay: Rs. 41,800 per month (Pay Scale: Rs. 41,800–1,17,600)
- Total Emoluments: Approximately Rs. 48,000 per month plus HRA (if not residing in MbPA quarters)
- Allowances: DA, HRA, TA, and other admissible allowances as applicable

Selection Process

Selection is based on performance in the written exam only. The exam will be held in Mumbai.

Responsibilities
- Translate official documents, circulars, and correspondence from English to Hindi and Hindi to English accurately.
- Prepare draft translations of administrative orders, reports, and policy documents for the General Administration Department.
- Review translated content for grammatical accuracy, consistency, and adherence to official terminology.
- Assist in implementation of the Official Language Policy of the Government of India within the organisation.
- Maintain records of translated documents and ensure timely delivery of translation assignments.
- Support Hindi workshops, training sessions, and official language activities as required by the department.
- Handle any other translation-related duties assigned by the Dy. Secretary / Manager (HR).

Exam Pattern
The written examination is a descriptive / subjective type paper of 3 hours duration, carrying a total of 100 marks. You need to score a minimum of 35% overall to be considered for shortlisting. The exam is conducted in English and Hindi as applicable.
- Translation — English to Hindi (2 passages): 40 marks
- Translation — Hindi to English (1 passage): 20 marks
- Essay Writing (Hindi): 10 marks
- Precis Writing in Hindi from English paragraph: 10 marks
- Grammar — English and Hindi (5+5 sub-questions): 10 marks
- Letter Writing (Hindi): 10 marks
The exam centre will be in Mumbai. MbPA reserves the right to modify the exam structure.
