MbPA Marine Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is engaging Marine Engineers on contract for its Marine Department. The work follows the department's craft-duty arrangements in Mumbai, including extended attendance when operations need it. You would join on a full-time contract, with continuation and extensions linked to the department's needs and your performance.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial term: The engagement runs for three years. After that, the department may propose extensions of up to one year at a time, subject to performance review and the Chairperson's agreement.
• Exclusive engagement: You cannot take another assignment during the contract. You must also avoid outside advice, representation or activities that conflict with MbPA's interests.
• Duty pattern: Craft duties follow a 24-hour on/off arrangement or the Marine Department's instructions. Hours can increase when required, and weekly rest days can change with advance notice.
• Rest and attendance: Work on a weekly rest day or public holiday can earn a compensatory rest day. There is no additional monetary compensation for extra duty, and attendance is recorded through the biometric system.
• Leave: You receive 30 days of earned leave and 12 days of casual leave each year. Earned leave may accumulate up to 40 days and can be encashed under the notice's terms after successful completion; excess absence leads to proportionate deductions.
• Completion guarantee: The notice provides for a 10% monthly deduction into a separate guarantee account, released after successful completion of the contract. Read this alongside the notice-period provisions before accepting the appointment.
• Integrity and records: You must sign an integrity pact. MbPA owns the assignment's data and outputs, and written permission is needed before disclosure to others. Hand over the complete assignment records before the contract ends and final payment is released.
• Review and termination: Performance is reviewed annually or when an extension is considered, whichever comes first. Either side can end the contract with one month's written notice; leaving without notice or its acceptance can forfeit the guarantee and pay corresponding to the notice period.
• Status of appointment: This engagement gives no claim to absorption or regularisation. MbPA may cancel the recruitment or reject applications under the conditions of the notice.
