Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is engaging VTS/Signal Assistants on contract for its marine operations in Mumbai. The work combines VTS operator, data entry and shipping assistant functions under the Deputy Conservator. This is an open-ended recruitment notice: applications may be considered while positions remain unfilled or additional openings arise.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: Your initial engagement lasts one year from joining. MbPA may extend it one year at a time at its discretion; an extension is not automatic.
• Duty pattern: The notice provides for 24-hour on/off or 12-hour on/off working arrangements, with weekly rest based on operational needs. The weekly rest day may change after advance intimation.
• Leave: You receive 12 days of casual leave in a year, subject to prior approval. Leave is proportionately adjusted for a shorter engagement, and absence beyond the allowed leave leads to a proportionate deduction from pay.
• Accommodation: Port accommodation may be offered on request if available. Rent is charged at 25 times the prescribed licence fee for the allotted unit, with electricity and water charged according to use.
• Medical facilities: The contract does not provide medical facilities for you or your family. This condition is separate from the medical fitness requirement before joining.
• Ending the contract: Either side may end the engagement with one month of written notice. If you leave without notice or acceptance of termination notice, pay due for the notice period may be forfeited.
• Early termination: MbPA may end the engagement on 24-hour notice for unsatisfactory performance or conduct considered harmful to the port’s interests.
• Vacating accommodation: If your contract ends without renewal, you must leave the allotted accommodation within one month.
• Regular appointment: This engagement does not create a right to a regular post or absorption into Mumbai Port Authority. The number of openings may change according to operational requirements.
