Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has released Advertisement No. SPON/10381/Advt0274 dated 16 July 2026 for a temporary Post-Doctoral Fellow position under Prof. Uttama Lahiri in the Electrical Engineering department. The position is funded under an ANRF-ARG research project called SmartGait, which develops a wearable device offering vibrotactile stimulation to understand rehabilitation dosage in terms of gait quantification and neuronal activity in the dopaminergic circuits of individuals with Parkinson's Disease. The appointment is for 6 months and can be extended based on your performance — a great opportunity if you want hands-on research experience in wearable biomedical devices. This position follows both Institute norms and Funding Agency (ANRF) norms for eligibility.

As a Post-Doctoral Fellow on this project, your work will focus on the development of a wearable biomedical device — this includes hardware and firmware development, signal acquisition and processing using various sensors, algorithm development in Python and MATLAB, and integration with microcontroller-based platforms. You will also validate the system in laboratory and field conditions, working closely with individuals with Parkinson's Disease and clinicians while implementing the device.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: PhD in Electronics / Electrical / Mechanical / Biomedical Engineering or an equivalent degree.
• OR Experience Route: 3 years of research, teaching, or design and development experience after ME/M.Tech, with at least one research paper published in an SCI journal.
• Marks Requirement: You need a minimum of 55% marks in Class X and XII, and 60% in Graduation and above.
• National Test Qualified Scholars: Candidates selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including lectureship/Assistant Professorship), GATE, or similar national-level exams conducted by Central Government Departments and Agencies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, or NISER are also eligible.
• Skills Needed: Experience working with wearable devices, knowledge of signal processing, and hands-on skills in Python, MATLAB, and microcontroller programming.
• Desirable: Prior work experience in developing healthcare devices or rehabilitation-related projects will be an advantage.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated monthly pay of Rs. 72,000 to Rs. 84,000, which includes House Rent Allowance (HRA).
• Where applicable, the HRA component is Rs. 7,400 per month.
• The position is purely temporary, for a duration of 6 months, extendable subject to satisfactory performance.
