Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has released a notification (Advertisement No. IP/10129/Advt0253) for 1 Post-Doctoral Fellow position in the WasteX research group under Prof. Abhishek Singhal. This is a temporary, one-year research position that can be extended based on your performance and project funding. If you are a PhD holder who wants to work on sustainable waste-to-energy research, this role is for you.

The WasteX group develops sustainable solutions for turning biowaste such as biomass, plastics and textiles into useful products. As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, you will focus on thermochemical and hydrothermal conversion — mainly gasification and hydrothermal liquefaction. You will help set up reactor facilities, run experiments, mentor students, and support the preparation of research proposals and papers. You may also travel to partner IITs and labs abroad for collaborative work.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You must have a PhD in Civil, Energy, Chemical, Mechanical, Biotechnology or any other relevant field from a recognised university or institute.
• Experience: You need experience in biomass pretreatment and/or thermochemical conversion (gasification, hydrothermal liquefaction, pyrolysis) and life cycle assessment.
• Marks: You must have at least 60% marks (or equivalent grade) from the undergraduate level onwards, and at least 55% marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
• Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis but are awaiting the degree can also apply.

Skills That Give You an Edge

• Hands-on lab experience with hydrothermal liquefaction and gasification
• Experience handling or designing lab-scale or pilot-scale reactors
• Working knowledge of analytical equipment such as SEM-EDX, XRF, XRD, GC-MS, HPLC and ICP-MS
• Knowledge of at least one programming language and strong academic writing skills

Salary

• You will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 72,000 to Rs. 84,000 per month, depending on your qualifications and experience.
• The appointment is for one year and can be extended based on your performance and project funding.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam for this post. Selection is based on:

1. Screening of Applications: Your CV, transcripts, statement of purpose and publications are reviewed against the eligibility norms.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview with the principal investigator and the research team.
