IIT Bhilai Faculty Recruitment 2026

Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai), an Institute of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act 2016, has released Advertisement No. IITBhilai/Rectt.(Faculty)/2026/01 dated 09 April 2026. The institute is looking for exceptionally bright and highly motivated faculty with a strong record of independent research and commitment to teaching across departments of Engineering, Science, and Liberal Arts. Applications are open to Indian nationals, Persons of Indian Origins (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Foreign Nationals. Foreign nationals can be offered contractual appointment for up to five years.

Recruitment is open across 4 faculty positions in the following departments:

  • Computer Science and Engineering — All areas with a special focus on AI/ML and Systems

  • Mechanical Engineering — Solid Mechanics, Thermal & Fluid Engineering, Manufacturing
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering — Signal Processing, VLSI, RF & Microwave, Communication Systems
  • Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering — Extractive Metallurgy, Polymers, Ceramic Materials
  • Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering — Biomedical devices, Biosensors, Biomechanics, Biomedical Imaging
  • Mechatronics — Cyber physical systems, MEMS, Embedded systems, AI/ML, Control systems
  • Liberal Arts — Economics, Psychology (Assistant Professor and above)
  • Chemistry — All areas, preference for Inorganic Magnetic Materials, Carbohydrate Chemistry, Chemical Biology

Who Can Apply?

Assistant Professor (Grade-II) — Pay Level 10/11

  • Qualification: PhD in a relevant area with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree, with a consistently good academic record throughout.
  • Experience: Candidates with less than 3 years of post-PhD experience may be considered for a contractual position.

Assistant Professor (Grade-I) — Pay Level 12

  • Qualification: PhD in a relevant area with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree, with a consistently good academic record throughout.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant teaching/research/industrial experience after PhD. Candidates with less than 3 years may be considered for a contractual position of Assistant Professor Grade II.

Associate Professor — Pay Level 13A2

  • Qualification: PhD with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record throughout.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years of teaching/industry/research experience, of which 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor (Grade-I) or Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer in a research organisation or industry.
  • Institute will use shortlisting criteria based on academic, research, and outreach performance (PhDs supervised, projects handled, patents, technology transfer, etc.).

Professor — Pay Level 14A

  • Qualification: PhD with first class or equivalent grades at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record throughout.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of post-PhD teaching/research/professional experience, of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs, or equivalent institutions.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated leadership in research, an excellent publication record, and should have graduated PhD students.
  • Desirable: Experience in laboratory/course development, patents, technology transfer, and external funding.

Age Limit

  • Assistant Professor (Grade-II): Below 35 years
  • Assistant Professor (Grade-I): Below 35 years
  • Associate Professor: Below 45 years
  • Professor: Below 55 years
  • Age relaxation for reserved categories as per Government of India norms.

Salary

  • Assistant Professor (Grade-II): Rs. 70,900 – Rs. 75,300 per month (Pay Level 10/11, 7th CPC)
  • Assistant Professor (Grade-I): Rs. 1,01,500 – Rs. 1,67,400 per month (Pay Level 12, minimum basic Rs. 1,01,500/month)
  • Associate Professor: Rs. 1,39,600 – Rs. 2,11,300 per month (Pay Level 13A2, minimum basic Rs. 1,39,600/month)
  • Professor: Rs. 1,59,100 – Rs. 2,20,200 per month (Pay Level 14A, minimum basic Rs. 1,59,100/month)
  • Plus HRA (if campus accommodation not provided), LTC, Medical, Transport Allowance, Children Education Allowance/Hostel Subsidy, NPS contribution, and telephone reimbursement.
  • Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA): Rs. 3 lakhs for every block of 3 years for conferences and professional body memberships.
  • Relocation expenses and a significant start-up research grant provided to new faculty members.
  • Research initiation grant and matching grants for externally funded projects available on merit.
