About This Job

Apply for 1 JRF post in IIT Bhilai. Engineering or Physics PG with GATE/NET eligible. Salary: Rs 37,000 + HRA. Last date: 24 Aug 2026.

Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) project in Mechanical Engineering. If you have an eligible engineering or physics qualification with GATE or CSIR-UGC NET, you can apply using the institute form. The application must reach the project investigator by 24 August 2026. The fellowship pays Rs. 37,000 per month plus 16% HRA.

IIT Bhilai JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) needs a Junior Research Fellow for the project titled “Development of On-Chip Emulsifier for Diesel Emulsification.” The work sits in the Department of Mechanical Engineering under Principal Investigator Dr. Vijay S. Duryodhan at the Kutelabhata campus in Durg, Chhattisgarh.

This is a project-based appointment, not a regular institute post. The first appointment is for 1 year and may continue for the remaining 2 years after a performance review, within the project’s total 3-year duration. The position is available immediately, so the selected person will need to join soon after receiving the offer.

The project combines engineering analysis with work related to microfluidics, electrohydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics. Applicants who already know relevant simulation tools can show that experience in their resume, but the notification keeps these abilities as preferences rather than mandatory qualifications.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply through any one of the three qualification routes below. Your degree must be from a recognized institute or university, and the stated test qualification must match the relevant subject.

  • B.E./B.Tech route: Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical or Production Engineering with first class and at least 60% marks, along with a valid GATE qualification in the relevant subject.
  • M.E./M.Tech/M.S. route: Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical or Production Engineering in a specialization related to the project, with first class and at least 60% marks, plus GATE in the relevant subject.
  • M.Sc. route: Physics with specialization in Electromagnetism or Classical Mechanics, first class with at least 60% marks, and a CSIR-UGC NET or GATE score in the relevant subject.
  • SC/ST marks: The minimum is 55% instead of 60% for applicants from SC or ST categories.

Preference may go to applicants with Ansys-Fluent, OpenFOAM or COMSOL Multiphysics experience. Work in microfluidics, electrohydrodynamics or magnetohydrodynamics can also strengthen your profile. These preferred skills do not replace the essential degree, marks and qualifying-test conditions.

Age Limit

  • You should be no more than 35 years old.
  • Possible relaxation: IIT Bhilai may consider relaxation for an outstanding applicant or someone with relevant experience, but the notice does not state a fixed number of years.

Check that your age and qualification documents support the details entered in the form. The institute’s selection committee will make the final decision on eligibility and shortlisting.

Salary

  • The fellowship is Rs. 37,000 per month.
  • You will receive 16% House Rent Allowance (HRA) in addition to the monthly fellowship.
  • The stated fellowship applies to applicants selected through CSIR-UGC NET, including lectureship or Assistant Professorship, GATE, or another qualifying national-level examination run by a central government department, agency or institution.

The notice gives a fixed monthly fellowship rather than a government pay level. It does not list DA, TA or any other allowance beyond 16% HRA, so you should use the notified amount when comparing this project role with other openings.

Selection Process (No Written Exam Announced)

The notice does not announce a written test. IIT Bhilai will first review the submitted form and resume, then call only shortlisted applicants for an interview.

  1. Application screening: The project team checks the essential degree, marks, GATE or NET qualification and relevance of your profile.
  2. Shortlisting: If many people apply, the committee may use qualifications and experience above the minimum level to keep the interview group manageable.
  3. Interview: Shortlisted applicants attend the interview; the notice says no TA or DA will be paid for attending.
  4. Final decision: The selection committee’s decision is final, and the chosen fellow must join immediately after the offer.

The fellowship can be ended with 30 days’ notice before the tenure finishes if performance is not satisfactory. Performance also matters when IIT Bhilai considers extending the initial 1-year appointment.
