Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) is hiring 1 Young Professional-I for the AINP Ornamental Fish Breeding and Culture project at Kochi. You need a B.F.Sc. or B.Sc. in Zoology from a recognized university or college. The post is temporary for one year, with possible extension based on performance, and pays Rs. 30,000 per month. Email the prescribed application and scanned certificates by 30 August 2026.
CMFRI Young Professional I Recruitment 2026
ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has opened this contractual role under its All India Network Project on Ornamental Fish Breeding and Culture. The project work is associated with CMFRI, Kochi, while the notice states that the place of work can be anywhere in India. The selected professional will support practical and research activities connected with ornamental fish culture.
The appointment begins for one year and may continue if your performance is satisfactory and the project needs the role. It is a time-bound, non-regular position, so selection does not create a claim to a permanent CMFRI appointment. This opportunity is useful for a fisheries or zoology graduate who wants hands-on work in broodstock, breeding, larval rearing and live-feed culture.
Only one post is available. CMFRI will tell shortlisted applicants the interview date, time and venue by email. Sending an application does not itself permit you to attend; the notice says only applicants who receive the interview communication may appear at the specified time.
Who Can Apply?
Essential Qualification
- Option 1: B.F.Sc. from a recognized university or college
- Option 2: B.Sc. in Zoology from a recognized university or college
- Document proof: Scanned educational certificates from Class 10 onward must accompany the application
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Ornamental fish work: Experience or dissertation work in broodstock development, breeding, larval rearing or live-feed culture
- Training: Captive-breeding and larval-rearing training from a government organization such as ICAR, CSIR or a university
- Publication: At least 1 research paper in a refereed journal as first author or co-author
- Computer skills: Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Practical skill: Ability to swim
The degree is the essential gate, while the fish-breeding experience, training, publication and computer skills are desirable factors. Do not claim a dissertation, publication or training unless you can support it with the document or citation requested by CMFRI.
The notice does not prescribe a minimum number of employment years. A fresher with the required degree can read the vacancy, but applicants with direct ornamental-fish exposure are more closely aligned with the preferred profile. Explain relevant course projects, hatchery work or research clearly in the prescribed form.
Age Limit
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Maximum age: 45 years
- Age relaxation: Available as per applicable rules
- Reference issue: The annexure prints an older reference date, so use the current recruitment instructions and seek clarification if needed
The recruitment section gives an age band of 21 to 45 years. The attached application format contains an old “age as on” reference, which should not be silently treated as the current cut-off. State your correct date of birth and let CMFRI apply the official rule to this 2026 engagement.
Salary
- Consolidated monthly pay: Rs. 30,000
- Initial duration: One year
- Extension: Possible based on performance
- Separate allowances: Not listed
The Young Professional-I will receive Rs. 30,000 per month as consolidated pay under the revised ICAR guidelines cited in the notice. The document does not list DA, HRA, TA or another allowance on top of this amount.
The post remains contractual and time-bound. CMFRI can terminate the service under the stated conditions, and an extension depends on performance and project need. Read the engagement letter carefully before accepting the role.
Selection Process
Selection is through application scrutiny followed by an interview. There is no physical test in the official notice; the swimming skill appears as a desirable job-related ability, not as a published selection stage.
- Email Application: CMFRI receives the prescribed form, biodata, declarations and scanned certificates.
- Eligibility Screening: The institute checks the degree, age and supporting documents.
- Interview Intimation: Shortlisted applicants receive the date, time and venue by email.
- Interview: Only applicants who receive the communication may attend at the specified time.
- Final Decision: The Director, ICAR-CMFRI, makes the final selection decision.
Applicants will not receive TA/DA for the interview. Carry a valid original identity proof when appearing. Do not travel until you receive CMFRI's interview email, since the date and venue are not fixed in the public notice.
How to Apply

- Fill in your personal, educational, experience and publication details accurately.

This is an email-based application, so the application URL remains empty. Use only the address printed in the official PDF and send the prescribed form rather than an informal CV alone. CMFRI says an application outside the prescribed format will not be considered.
If you currently work elsewhere, disclose that status and provide the required NOC. Keep your original identity proof and certificates ready for the interview. The notice does not charge an application fee; the pre-extracted fee amounts came from numbered clauses and are not genuine fees.
