About This Job

Apply for 1 Project Assistant post at ICAR-CMFRI Mumbai. B.F.Sc/B.Sc eligible. Salary: Rs. 20,000. Walk-in: 3 September 2026.

The Mumbai Regional Station of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) is hiring 1 Project Assistant for a wildlife-awareness project in Maharashtra. You need a B.F.Sc or B.Sc in Zoology/Life Science and must attend the walk-in process in Mumbai. Report on 3 September 2026 before 10:00 AM, with the notice asking applicants to arrive 30 minutes early. The fixed salary is Rs. 20,000 per month, and the age range is 21 to 45 years.

ICAR-CMFRI Project Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) works under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture. Its Mumbai Regional Station will fill this project role under File No. 3-57/2026/MFC_Wildlife/MRS dated 18 August 2026. The appointment is temporary and contractual for one year or until the project ends, whichever happens first.

The project focuses on awareness and capacity building for endangered, threatened and protected species covered by the Wildlife Protection Act (Amendment Act) 2022. The main work location is the ICAR-CMFRI station at Versova, Mumbai, but project needs may take the selected person to Palghar, Thane, Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Raigad, Ratnagiri or Sindhudurg. Swimming skill and previous fisheries-sector experience will receive preference.

This is a fixed-term research-support opportunity, not a route to a regular ICAR-CMFRI post. Continuation depends on work performance, available project funds and the project's remaining tenure. Either side may end the assignment with one month's notice under the conditions stated in the notification, and the institute may also stop it earlier for administrative reasons.

Who Can Apply?

  • Essential qualification: You must have a B.F.Sc degree or a B.Sc degree in Zoology/Life Science.
  • Preferred qualification: M.F.Sc or M.Sc with a specialization in fisheries.
  • Preferred experience: Previous work in the fisheries sector will strengthen your application.
  • Additional preference: Applicants who are skilled swimmers will be preferred.
  • Supporting proof: You must bring records for your qualification, category and any experience you claim.

You should attend only when your degree meets the stated B.F.Sc or B.Sc subject requirement. A higher degree is preferred but does not replace the essential qualification unless ICAR-CMFRI confirms otherwise. Self-attested copies and original records are needed at the venue so the selection team can check the facts in your bio-data.

Because the project covers protected marine species and coastal awareness, practical familiarity with fisheries, aquatic fieldwork or stakeholder outreach can be useful. The notification does not set a fixed number of years of experience, so the structured experience fields remain open. Academic performance, research exposure and interview performance will all matter during selection.

Age Limit

  • You should be at least 21 years old.
  • The maximum age is 45 years.
  • Reference date: Eligibility will be checked for the walk-in process on 3 September 2026.
  • Age relaxation: Category, previous-employment and other relaxation claims will follow applicable Government of India rules.

If you claim an age concession, carry the relevant official certificate with your other records. The notice does not list separate relaxation years for SC, ST, OBC or another group, so do not assume a particular number beyond the applicable central rules. Missing proof can affect your claim during document checking.

Salary

  • Fixed monthly salary: Rs. 20,000.
  • Tenure: One year or until the project ends, whichever is earlier.
  • Travel for interview: No TA or DA will be paid for attending the selection process.

The Project Assistant will receive a fixed Rs. 20,000 per month. The notice does not list DA, HRA, TA or another monthly allowance, so both structured salary figures use the same known amount. Extension is not automatic and depends on performance, funding and the project period.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

ICAR-CMFRI describes an interview-based selection and does not announce a written test. The committee will look at your academic record, research experience and performance during the interview. Meeting the minimum degree condition does not guarantee selection.

  1. Eligibility Screening: The station will consider applicants who meet the essential degree and age conditions.
  2. Document Verification: Your bio-data, self-attested copies, category proof and original records will be checked at the venue.
  3. Academic and Research Assessment: The committee will consider academic performance and any relevant fisheries or research experience.
  4. Personal Interview: Attend the interview at the Mumbai Regional Station on 3 September 2026.
  5. Final Decision: The Director, ICAR-CMFRI will make the final decision under the project's terms.

Arrive by about 9:30 AM, which is 30 minutes before the scheduled start. Canvassing can disqualify an applicant, and the institute will not pay travel or daily expenses for the visit. Carry an organized document set so registration and checking can be completed without delay.

How to Apply

  1. Read the direct Project Assistant notification available through cmfri.org.in.
  2. Prepare a clear bio-data with your education, research exposure and fisheries-sector experience.
  3. Make self-attested copies of your degree, marksheets, category certificate and other relevant records.
  4. Bring the corresponding original documents for checking.
  5. Travel to Mumbai Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI, 2nd Floor, Old CIFE Campus, Fisheries University Road, Seven Bungalows, Versova, Mumbai 400061.
  6. Reach the venue by about 9:30 AM on 3 September 2026 for the 10:00 AM walk-in interview.

No advance online or postal form is described for this recruitment; you take your bio-data and records directly to the walk-in venue. Check that your name, degree subjects, dates and experience details match the certificates you carry. Late arrival can prevent participation, so allow time for travel and registration.
