About This Job

ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) is hiring 2 Junior Research Fellows (JRF) at its Regional Research Centre, Dharwad, Karnataka under ANRF-funded projects on soybean rust and chickpea dry root rot. ICAR-IARI Dharwad JRF Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts

The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) has released advertisement number IARI/RRC_Dharwad/2026/01 dated 21 May 2026 for 2 JRF positions on a purely contractual and time-bound basis under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) funded projects. The interview will be held online at IARI's Regional Research Centre, Dharwad (Karnataka), and shortlisted candidates will be informed by email. There is no written exam — selection is purely through interview of shortlisted candidates. Both projects work on plant disease resistance and molecular markers.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in a Professional Course, specifically Master's degree in Plant Pathology / Genetics and Plant Breeding, AND
  • You must be selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship / Assistant Professorship) and GATE, OR
  • Through a national-level examination conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.

Desirable Qualification

  • Experience in disease screening of field crops
  • Knowledge of pathogen isolation, inoculation and disease scoring
  • Experience in molecular marker genotyping is an added advantage

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years (as on date of interview)
  • Maximum age: 35 years
  • Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST candidates and women; 3 years for OBC candidates

Salary

  • 1st and 2nd year: JRF stipend of Rs. 37,000 + 20% HRA per month
  • 3rd year: SRF stipend of Rs. 42,000 + 20% HRA per month
  • The post is purely temporary and on a contractual basis for one year or until the project ends, whichever is earlier
  • The selected candidate cannot claim regular appointment at ICAR-IARI as the post is co-terminus with the project

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is purely through interview of shortlisted candidates:

  1. Screening of applications: The committee will screen applications and shortlist eligible candidates.
  2. Online interview: Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the interview date and time by email. The interview is conducted online.
  3. Document verification: Original documents will be verified at the time of interview. Shortlisted candidates must carry recent bio-data with original copies of documents and a copy of their M.Sc / M.Tech thesis.

No TA/DA or any other expense will be paid for attending the interview. Only candidates meeting essential qualifications will be interviewed.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out experimental work on the assigned ANRF-funded project — soybean rust resistance or chickpea dry root rot resistance
  • Conduct disease screening of field crops and maintain controlled-condition trials
  • Handle pathogen isolation, inoculation and disease scoring under standard protocols
  • Perform molecular marker genotyping and analyse data using bioinformatics tools
  • Maintain accurate lab records, field notebooks and data sheets for the project
  • Prepare progress reports and assist in drafting research publications
  • Present research findings at lab meetings and project review sessions when required
