RRC SWR Goods Train Manager and JE Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Railway Recruitment Cell of South Western Railway (RRC SWR), Hubballi has opened a General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) for Goods Train Manager and Junior Engineer (JE) posts. This is not an open recruitment — it is an in-house route meant only for regular railway employees already working in South Western Railway and the Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka (RWF/YNK). The posts come out of the 25% share of Direct Recruitment Quota vacancies that the railways keep aside for serving staff.

If you are working in a lower pay level today and hold a graduation degree or an engineering diploma, this exam lets you move up to a higher post without competing against outside candidates. The test is set at the same standard as the RRB direct-recruitment exams for these posts, so prepare the way an open-market candidate would.

Posts and Disciplines

• Goods Train Manager (earlier called Goods Guard): an Operating department post and by far the largest part of this notice. Graduates from any stream can compete; PwBD staff cannot apply for this post.
• JE / Bridge: an Engineering department post for civil diploma or B.Sc. (Civil) holders, tested in the Civil and Allied Engineering exam group.
• JE / P.Way: a permanent way (track) post in the Engineering department, also tested in the Civil and Allied group.
• JE / Mechanical Workshop: a Mechanical department post open to mechanical, production, automobile, manufacturing, electrical, electronics and related diploma streams.
• JE / S&T / Signal: a Signal and Telecommunication post for electrical, electronics, IT, communication and computer diploma holders; PwBD staff cannot apply for this post.

All JE posts share one common exam, but your technical section depends on your exam group (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics and Allied), which is fixed by the diploma or degree you hold. If your qualifications fall in more than one group, you choose one group and stay eligible for every post your qualifications cover.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Who is left out: RPF and RPSF personnel cannot apply, and neither can staff of the Law Assistant, Catering Inspector and Accounts cadres.
• Zone of consideration: Staff in a lower pay level than the notified post can apply for any category. Staff already in the same level can apply only when moving from a non-safety to a safety category, or from one safety category to another.
• Service Register entries: Your qualification must be recorded in your Service Register and HRMS by the notification date. If the entry is missing, your candidature can be rejected at any stage, so raise an HRMS update request through your own login and give the documents to your dealing clerk.
• Transfer liability: Selected staff can be posted to any division or unit of South Western Railway, and you cannot choose your unit. If you are not willing to move, the notice asks you not to apply.
• Post preference: You give a preference order for every post you qualify for while filling the form. Once saved it cannot be changed, and any post you leave out is treated as one you do not want.
• Training: Selected employees go through the same initial training as direct recruits for that post, with training-period pay as per existing rules.
• Vacancies may change: The railway can raise, cut or even cancel the notified vacancies depending on its actual needs.
• Exam travel: RRC will not issue any travel authority — your own division or unit decides on sparing you and issuing duty passes.
• Disputes: Legal matters fall under the Central Administrative Tribunal, Bangalore.

Application Submission Notes

You apply only online through the application portal linked on www.rrchubli.in. Once you submit, the form goes to the personnel branch of your own unit (Headquarters, the Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mysuru divisions, Construction, other units or RWF/Yelahanka) for online verification, so pick your unit correctly.

• Admit card signature: Get your e-admit card signed by your supervisor or controlling officer before the CBT — it doubles as your relieving letter for exam day.
