IIIT Dharwad Faculty Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad (IIIT Dharwad), an Institute of National Importance set up in 2015, is hiring Assistant Professor Grade I and Associate Professor faculty through a rolling advertisement (Advt. No. IITTDWD/FW/Rec/01/2025-26). Rolling means there is no single closing date for a batch — the institute keeps the form open and reviews applications as its needs come up. The posts are open in all four academic departments, and candidates with strong industry experience or an interest in innovation and start-ups are especially welcome.

The institute runs B.Tech, M.Tech (Research) and Ph.D. programmes and is preparing to launch several new M.Tech programmes, so new faculty will help shape fresh courses as well as teach the existing ones. Classes run from the 60-acre permanent campus near Sattur, Dharwad (Karnataka), about 10 km from Hubballi Airport.

Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Professor Grade I: the regular entry-level faculty post, open in every department for candidates who already have some post-Ph.D. teaching, research or industry experience and a live sponsored project (for academics).
• Associate Professor: the senior faculty post for researchers who have already guided Ph.D. scholars, run sponsored projects and taught at the Assistant Professor level in a premier institute.
• Departments: Arts, Science and Design; Computer Science and Engineering (CSE); Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI); and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). Only applications in the institute's high-priority areas of current and near-future need will be taken up.

Post-wise Duties

Assistant Professor Grade I

You will teach core undergraduate and postgraduate courses from the IIIT Dharwad curriculum, run your own sponsored research, and add new experiments or computational projects to the teaching labs. Guiding B.Tech and M.Tech projects on real industry problems is part of the work.

Associate Professor

You will lead a research group, supervise Ph.D. and M.Tech students, bring in and manage sponsored projects, and run outreach such as short-term courses. The institute also looks for faculty who can build industry links and offer courses through online programmes.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• PPP institute: IIIT Dharwad follows a Public-Private-Partnership model with a limited number of faculty positions, so meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a seminar or interview call.
• Assistant Professor Grade II: candidates with less than three years of post-Ph.D. experience may instead be offered a contractual Grade II position, which is not a regular faculty post.
• Foreign nationals, PIOs and OCIs: an offer depends on clearance from the Government of India; foreign nationals are appointed on contract for up to 5 years.
• Government employees: apply through proper channel or attach a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Without an NOC at interview time, the interview will not be held.
• Reservation: Government of India reservation rules apply, without any relaxation in qualification, experience or competence.
• Re-application gap: if you were not selected earlier, wait at least one year and apply again only after clear progress in your record.
• Jurisdiction: all disputes fall under Dharwad (Karnataka) courts only.
