NLSIU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru — ranked first among law universities in NIRF for eight years running — has opened a faculty call for Assistant Professor posts in Law and in Humanities and Social Sciences. The October 2026 call mixes permanent posts with five-year contract posts, and adds two endowed chairs: the Department of Revenue Chair and the HAL Defence Public Sector Chair in Business Laws.

All posts are at the Nagarbhavi campus in Bengaluru. Each post has its own notification (Nos. 20 to 25) and its own online form, so treat them as separate applications even though they close together. Foreign nationals, OCI cardholders, NRIs and PIOs can also apply.

Reserved seats for SC and ST candidates exist only in the two permanent posts; every contract and chair post is unreserved.

Post-wise Duties

Assistant Professor (Law) and (Humanities and Social Sciences)

You will teach, research and take part in university service in your subject area — NLSIU says it wants people committed to teaching, scholarship and institutional service, not teaching alone.

Department of Revenue Chair

You will teach and research taxation law, run training and capacity-building programmes for Department of Revenue officials, and give legal opinions and analysis to DoR officers when they ask.

HAL Defence Public Sector Chair in Business Laws

You will teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise theses, and build the Chair's research on defence-sector contracts, procurement and dispute resolution. You will also design training programmes, organise an annual conference on defence sector laws, and serve on university committees.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Probation: Permanent appointees are confirmed only after two years of satisfactory probation, and serve until retirement at 65.
• Contract tenure: The general contract posts run for five years; the two chair posts run for five years and can be extended at the university's discretion.
• Foreign applicants: Foreign nationals, OCI, NRI and PIO candidates can apply, but confirmation depends on getting the required Government of India visa approvals.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview; NLSIU may limit how many candidates it calls.
• Serving employees: If you work in a government body, PSU or autonomous body, bring a No Objection Certificate to the interview if you did not send it earlier.
• Vacancy flexibility: The university may leave a post unfilled or fill vacancies irrespective of the post you applied for.
