Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) is hiring 3 Law Officers on a contract basis at its headquarters in Nagpur. Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) Law Officer Recruitment 2026 — 3 Posts

Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), a Subordinate Office under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has released a circular for the engagement of 3 Law Officers on a purely contractual basis. The contract is initially for three years and can be extended by one more year based on performance. This is not a permanent post — it does not confer any right to regularization. If you are a practicing advocate with experience handling civil, labour, or mining-related matters, this role offers you a chance to work directly with a government organization.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

  • Full-time 3-year LLB degree, OR 5-year integrated LLB degree, with a minimum of 50% marks (or equivalent CGPA) from a Bar Council of India recognized institute/college/university
  • You must be registered as an Advocate with the Bar Council of India or any State Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961

Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years of practice as an advocate before any Court of Law in India
  • Minimum 2 years of legal professional experience with any PSU, Government department, or large private organization (post-LLB qualification)
  • Must be conversant with Civil Matters, Arbitration, Labour Laws, Company Law, and experienced in drafting Petitions, Affidavits, Memorandums of Appeal, and Contract/Services Agreements
  • Good written and oral communication skills; computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

Preferred Experience

  • Experience as an advocate in the Supreme Court or High Court in matters related to Mines and Minerals
  • Working with the legal department of a mining PSU, Government department, or large private company

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 40 years
  • Age is to be calculated as on the closing date of the advertisement

Salary

  • Consolidated remuneration: Rs. 70,000 per month (inclusive of all, subject to statutory deductions)
  • No additional allowances such as Dearness Allowance, HRA, CGHS, medical reimbursement, transport facility, or pension are admissible
  • Income tax will be deducted at source; IBM will issue TDS Certificate(s)
  • You are entitled to 12 days of leave per calendar year on a pro-rata basis; un-availed leave cannot be carried forward

Selection Process

The selection is done in two stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Applications will be shortlisted based on qualifications and experience as mentioned in the notification. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the next stage.
  2. Personal Interview: Final selection is through a personal interview conducted by a Selection Committee. The decision of the Competent Authority is final and binding. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

  7. Hard copy must reach the office within 15 days from the date of issue of the circular (i.e., by 29 April 2026)
  8. Incomplete applications or those received after the due date will not be considered

Responsibilities

  • Tender legal opinions on issues referred to the department
  • Prepare para-wise comments on OAs, Writ Petitions, SLPs, and PILs filed against the department
  • Scrutinize counter affidavits received from Standing Counsel and check them against para-wise comments
  • Maintain and monitor the list of pending court cases in the department
  • Assist and be present in court during hearings
  • Handle drafting of Petitions, Applications, Affidavits, Memoranda of Appeal, and Contract/Services Agreements
  • Assist the department in policy decisions and legal matters as required by the Competent Authority
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all information handled during the engagement period

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

LLB (3-year full-time) or 5-year integrated LLB with minimum 50% marks + registered Advocate with Bar Council of India/State Bar Council

Preferred Qualification

Experience as advocate in Supreme Court/High Court in Mines & Minerals matters; legal experience with mining PSU/Govt dept/large private company
