Selection Process

This is a direct recruitment based on merit. There is no written exam for this position. Your application will be evaluated based on your years of practice as an advocate, qualifications, and documents submitted. The selection follows the procedure laid out in the Notaries (Amendment) Rules 2024, which may include an interview by a board that includes the Deputy Legislative Counsel and Deputy Government Advocate.

You need to download Form-I from the official website at chikkamagaluru.dcourts.gov.in and fill it as per Rule 4(2) of the Notaries (Amendment) Rules 2024. Attach self-attested copies of all required documents along with the completed form. Send your application by Speed Post or Registered Post to the office of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Chikkamagaluru. Make sure it reaches before 25 March 2026 by 5:00 PM — applications received after this deadline will not be considered under any circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Authenticate and certify documents, contracts, and legal instruments as a Notary Public
  • Administer oaths and affirmations for affidavits and statutory declarations
  • Attest signatures on deeds, agreements, and power of attorney documents
  • Maintain a register of all notarial acts performed
  • Verify the identity of signatories appearing before the Notary
  • Issue certified copies of notarized documents when requested

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

LLB Degree with enrollment as an Advocate in the State Bar Council and minimum 10 years of practice (7 years for SC/ST/OBC/Women)

Preferred Qualification

Experience in legal documentation and notarial work

Required Skills

Knowledge of Notaries Act 1952 and Notaries Rules 1956, legal documentation expertise

7.0 - No limit years

Minimum 10 years of practice as an advocate for general candidates. Reduced to 7 years for SC/ST, OBC, and women candidates as per Notaries (Amendment) Rules 2024.
