DIAT SRF or JRF Applied Mathematics Recruitment 2026: Overview
Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, is recruiting a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) or Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for its Department of Applied Mathematics. The contractual engagement supports a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sponsored project titled A Data Science Perspective for IVHM of Aircraft Engines Design and Development of Intelligent Prognostics. The important distinction is that DIAT will consider a JRF if it cannot recruit an SRF; these are alternative appointments for the same project opening.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: The engagement lasts for six months or until the project ends, whichever comes first. Your appointment therefore depends on the project continuing within that period.
- No permanent appointment: Accepting the fellowship gives you no right to absorption into DIAT. Treat this as a project engagement when considering the offer.
- Joining: The selected fellow must join immediately after receiving the offer letter. You should keep this requirement in mind if you need to leave an existing assignment.
- Further study: DIAT encourages recruited fellows to register for a Ph.D. through the proper institutional channels. Registration remains subject to DIAT norms.
- Interview travel: DIAT will not reimburse travel or daily expenses for attending the interview.
- Communication: Shortlisted applicants will receive individual emails. DIAT will also tell them whether the interview will take place in person or by video conference.

Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
BE/BTech/MSc in Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, Modelling and Simulation, CSE, IT, Electronics or Electronics and Communication Engineering, in first division with NET/GATE; alternatively ME/MTech in these fields with first division at both...
Preferred Qualification
Knowledge of deep learning, data mining, time series analysis, digital signal processing, machine learning, Python programming or thermal image processing is desirable for SRF.
Age Limit
Up to 32 years (as on 15 Oct 2026)
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST, Women and PwBD: 5 years
- OBC (NCL): 3 years
