NTH Director Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Consumer Affairs, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, is looking for a Director for National Test House (NTH), Mumbai — a subordinate testing organisation of the department. The post belongs to the General Central Service, Group-A (Gazetted), Non-Ministerial and will be filled on deputation, including short-term contract.

This suits a senior scientist or engineer who has spent many years managing materials testing in a laboratory and now wants to lead one. It is not open recruitment — you apply through your current employer, under file No. A-32013/06/2016-NTH dated 12 October 2026.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Who can come on deputation: Officers of the Central Government, State Governments, Union Territory administrations, PSUs, universities, recognised research institutes, autonomous bodies or statutory organisations.
• Short-term contract route: Candidates from non-government organisations can be considered only on short-term contract.
• Feeder-grade officers barred: Departmental officers in the feeder grade who are in the direct line of promotion cannot apply. Likewise, an officer on deputation here cannot later be appointed by promotion.
• Deputation limit: The deputation period, including any other ex-cadre deputation held just before this one, ordinarily cannot exceed four years.
• Place of posting: National Test House, Mumbai.
• Immediate release: Apply only if your department can relieve you immediately after selection.
• No withdrawal: Once selected, you cannot withdraw your candidature on any ground.
• Vigilance clearance: An officer with a minor penalty usually gets no vigilance clearance for three years after the penalty, and with a major penalty for five years, as per DoPT orders.
• Already on deputation: If you already hold a deputation post, your parent cadre must forward your application with cadre clearance, vigilance clearance and an integrity certificate.
• Missing documents: Applications without the APARs, vigilance clearance, no-penalty statement, integrity certificate and cadre clearance will not be considered.
