MEPZ SEZ Multi-Post Deputation Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Office of the Development Commissioner, MEPZ Special Economic Zone (MEPZ SEZ) in Chennai, which works under the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is looking for serving government staff to fill five office and secretarial roles. These are deputation postings, not fresh direct recruitment, so you must already hold a regular post in a government department, PSU or autonomous body. Selected staff will work at MEPZ SEZ or the private SEZs in Tamil Nadu that the Chennai office looks after.

The circular is an open advertisement that stays live for one year from its publication in Employment News. There is no single cut-off: the office checks the applications it receives each month and interviews shortlisted officers in the following month, until all posts are filled.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Assistant (Group B, Non-Gazetted): a general administrative post in the zone office, filled by regular deputation. It suits graduates already working as Assistants, or clerks in the feeder grade who are comfortable with word processing.
  • Junior Translation Officer (Group C): the Hindi-English translation post, filled on a cost-recovery deputation basis. Experience in industrial development, foreign trade or estate administration gives you an edge.
  • Stenographer Grade II (Group B, Non-Gazetted): the senior stenography post, also on cost-recovery deputation, meant for stenographers with fast English shorthand.
  • Stenographer Grade III (Group C): a junior stenography post on cost-recovery deputation, open to stenographers and experienced Lower Division Clerks.
  • Upper Division Clerk (Group C): clerical posts filled by regular deputation, open to UDCs and long-serving LDCs.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Who can apply: Regular employees of the Central Government, State Governments, Central or State PSUs and autonomous bodies. The methodology note for the Assistant post also says only Central Government employees may be considered, so read Annexure I of the circular carefully before you apply.
  • Tenure: Deputation ordinarily lasts up to three years, and any ex-cadre deputation you held just before this one counts towards that period.
  • Terms of deputation: Pay and other terms follow the DoPT O.M. No. 6/8/2009-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 17 June 2010, as amended from time to time.
  • Cost recovery: The JTO and both Stenographer posts are filled on deputation on cost recovery basis, while the Assistant and UDC posts are plain deputation.
  • Provisional posts: MEPZ may increase or reduce the number of posts depending on its actual needs at the time of selection.
  • Incomplete applications: An application sent without the NOC and the service records the circular asks for will not be considered.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the application proforma in Annexure II of the circular and get a No Objection Certificate from your Head of Department. Your office then forwards it through proper channel to The Development Commissioner, MEPZ Special Economic Zone, Admin Building, G.S.T. Road, Tambaram, Chennai 600 045.

The proforma has a separate field for the post you are applying for, so name the exact post there. Send the service records listed in the circular with the same forwarded application.
