The selection is through a walk-in interview only -- there is no written exam. You will be evaluated based on your academic qualifications, subject knowledge, and relevant technical skills. The interview committee will assess your suitability for the specific project you are applying for. The selection process may continue till late evening, so plan your day accordingly.
- Download the application form from the CSIR-CMERI website and fill it completely before the interview date
- Prepare your technical fundamentals in the specific domain of the post code you are targeting -- whether it is mechanical design, electronics, robotics, or thermal engineering
- Review CSIR-CMERI's research group pages to understand the ongoing projects and align your answers with the institute's focus areas
- Carry a well-organized portfolio of your academic projects, publications, or certifications to demonstrate practical competence
- Original certificates and mark sheets of all educational qualifications from 10th standard onwards
- Self-attested photocopies of all certificates, including caste certificate if claiming age relaxation
- Recent passport-size photograph -- carry at least two extra copies
- CSIR-UGC NET / GATE scorecard if applying for posts that require it, especially for higher stipend eligibility
- Experience certificates from previous employers, if applicable
- NOC from current employer if you are presently working at any CSIR lab or other institution
Responsibilities
- Contribute to ongoing CSIR-funded research projects in mechanical engineering and allied disciplines
- Conduct experiments, simulations, and data analysis as directed by the project investigator
- Develop prototypes, test setups, and manufacturing drawings using CAD/CAE software
- Prepare technical reports, research publications, and project documentation
- Collaborate with scientists and fellow researchers on multidisciplinary project teams
- Participate in field data collection, testing, and calibration activities as required
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
B.Sc. in Chemistry/Physics for Project Assistant-II; 3-year Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology for other posts; Master's/PhD for senior positions
Preferred Qualification
CSIR-UGC NET, GATE qualification, or national-level examination clearance for higher stipend brackets. Experience in CAD/CAE software, robotics, AI/ML, or domain-specific R&D is desirable.
Required Skills
Technical knowledge in relevant engineering discipline, proficiency in CAD/CAE/simulation tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB, Python), research aptitude, report writing

Freshers can apply
No prior experience required for Project Assistant and entry-level Project Associate posts. 2-4 years of R&D experience in industrial/academic institutions required for Senior Project Associate, Project Research Scientist, and Project Scientist posts. Candidates with 6+ years of prior CSIR engagement are not eligible.
Salary & Compensation
Pay Scale
Consolidated monthly stipend ranging from Rs. 20,000 (Project Assistant-II) to Rs. 56,000 (Project Research Scientist-I)
Allowances
15% increment after 3 years of experience in the same project for Project Assistants. HRA applicable for certain senior posts as per CSIR rules.
