Who Can Apply?

You can qualify for your chosen trade (Fitter, Electrician, Electronics/Instrument Mechanic, Foundryman, Motor Vehicle Mechanic or Refrigeration & AC Mechanic) through any one of these three routes:

• Qualification: 10th/SSC pass with Science subjects (minimum 55% marks) plus an ITI certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade from a recognized institution.
• Alternate Route 1: 10th/SSC pass with Science subjects (minimum 55% marks) plus 2 years' full-time experience as an apprentice trainee in the relevant trade from a recognized institution.
• Alternate Route 2: 10th/SSC pass with Science subjects (minimum 55% marks) plus 3 years' work experience in the relevant trade in a government Ministry, Department, PSU or Autonomous Body.
• Desirable: Ability to read technical drawings and schematics, basic knowledge of computers and software like AutoCAD, and the ability to work with a team in physically demanding workshop and field-trial conditions.

Each trade has its own specific certificate requirement — for example, Fitter candidates need a trade certificate in Fitter, Electronics/Instrument Mechanic candidates need a certificate in Electronics Mechanic or Instrument Mechanic, and so on. Age Limit

• You should be under 28 years old as on 3 August 2026 (the last date for online application).

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month under Pay Level 2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• Total monthly emoluments (Basic Pay + DA + HRA + TA) work out to approximately Rs. 39,000, as applicable at Durgapur, West Bengal or Ludhiana, Punjab.
• As a regular CSIR employee you will also be eligible for other standard government benefits like leave, medical facilities and pension scheme contributions.

Selection Process

CSIR-CMERI will select candidates in three stages:

1. Written Exam: Tests your trade knowledge and general aptitude for the Technician (Group-II) post.
2. Skill Test: Checks your hands-on proficiency in your chosen trade — for example, fitting and assembling parts if you applied for Fitter, or diagnosing electrical faults if you applied for Electrician.
3. Physical Test: Assesses your fitness for workshop and field-trial duties, since some trades involve physically demanding work.

Exact marks, question pattern, exam centres and shortlisting ratio will be shared with shortlisted candidates through their admit cards. Only candidates who clear each stage will move to the next one, so prepare well for both the written test and the practical skill test.
