Coal India Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 for Management Trainee recruitment in the Mining discipline. This recruitment is based on GATE-2025 score only; there is no separate written test for this advertisement. Selected candidates will join as Management Trainees in E-1 Grade and may be posted in CIL subsidiary companies, including coalfield areas across India.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• Degree required: Regular full-time Degree in Mining Engineering from a university or institute recognized by the appropriate statutory authority in India.
• Minimum marks: 60% marks for General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates.
• Relaxed marks: 55% marks for SC and ST candidates.
• GATE requirement: You must have qualified GATE-2025 in Mining Engineering with paper code MN. GATE scores from other years will not be considered.
• Final semester: Candidates who have passed the final semester examination as on the cut-off date are eligible.

Other Eligibility Rules

• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
• Government/PSU employees: You may need to submit a No Objection Certificate during document verification and medical examination.
• Posting willingness: You should be ready to serve anywhere in India, including subsidiary coalfield areas.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit: 30 years for General (UR) and EWS candidates.
• Age counted as on: 30 April 2026.
• OBC-NCL relaxation: 3 years.
• SC/ST relaxation: 5 years.
• Jammu & Kashmir domicile relaxation: 5 years for eligible candidates domiciled in J&K between 01 January 1980 and 31 December 1989.
• Ex-servicemen: Relaxation as per Government of India rules.
• Departmental CIL candidates: No age limit and no application fee as per company rules.

After relaxation, the notification says the applicant's age on the crucial date should not exceed 56 years.

Salary

• Post: Management Trainee in E-1 Grade.
• Pay scale: Rs. 60,000 - Rs. 1,80,000.
• Starting basic pay: Rs. 60,000 per month during the training period.
• After training: On successful completion of 1-year training-cum-probation, candidates are confirmed in E-1 Grade as Officer (Mining).
• Allowances: Dearness Allowance, HRA, cafeteria allowances, Performance Related Pay, leave, medical facilities, CMPF, CMPS, gratuity and CIL executive pension benefits as per rules.

Application Fee

• General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 1,180 total, including Rs. 1,000 fee plus Rs. 180 GST.
• SC / ST: No fee.
• CIL employees: No fee.
• Payment mode: Online only. Fee once paid will not be refunded.

Selection Process

1. GATE-2025 score shortlisting: Eligible candidates will be shortlisted category-wise in a 1:3 ratio based on GATE-2025 score and available vacancies.
2. Merit list: The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of GATE-2025 scores/marks for the Mining discipline.
3. Tie rule: If GATE scores are tied, higher marks/CGPA in the minimum eligible qualification will be used first. If still tied, the older candidate will be placed higher.
4. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for DV and must show original documents.
5. Initial Medical Examination: Appointment offer is issued only after successful DV and medical examination.
