BHU Postdoctoral Fellow Neurology Recruitment 2026: Overview
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is offering the Raja Jwala Prasad Post-Doctoral Fellowship through the Department of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences in Varanasi. The fellowship is supported under BHU's Institution of Eminence scheme and is designed for an early-career researcher who can bring strong cellular and molecular biology experience into a medical-research setting. It is a full-time, purely temporary research engagement rather than a permanent university appointment.
The work sits at the meeting point of neurology, experimental medicine and laboratory life science. Your research background should connect clearly with cellular and molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry, and the department expects evidence that you can turn laboratory findings into publishable research. The fellowship is especially relevant if you have already handled techniques such as microscopy, cloning, PCR or western blotting and want to extend that experience within an Institute of Medical Sciences team.
Research communication is an important part of the role. You will need to discuss methods and findings with the project team, maintain clear scientific records, and contribute to manuscripts or other research outputs. The publication requirement in the notice means your application should show both subject depth and the ability to complete work to recognised journal standards.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Fellowship tenure: The appointment runs for twelve months from the date you join. It is temporary and does not create a claim to a regular BHU post.
- Research environment: The fellow receives access to BHU health services, the library and other institutional resources under university rules, alongside the financial support recorded in the compensation fields.
- Shortlisting: Only applicants selected for the next stage will receive an email from the department. Keep the email address in your CV active and check it regularly.
- Interview travel: BHU will not pay travel or daily allowance if you are called for the interview, so you should plan the visit to Varanasi at your own cost.
- Reservation preference: When candidates are otherwise equally placed, the university will give preference to SC/ST candidates in line with Government of India rules.
- Academic standing: The notice limits the Indian PhD route to universities or institutes within the stated NIRF band, while applicants with a PhD from abroad must demonstrate a strong background in the relevant laboratory fields.
Application Submission Notes
Prepare the application on plain paper and address it to Prof. Abhishek Pathak, Department of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi 221005. You may also send it to abhishekpathakaiims@gmail.com with the subject “Application for Raja Jwala Prasad Postdoctoral fellowship”.
Your CV should give a clear, chronological picture of your education, research work and publications, along with your permanent and correspondence addresses, telephone number and email. Make the publication evidence easy to check by identifying the journal indexing or quartile relevant to each paper, and attach attested proof for the academic and research claims you make. This will help the department assess the fit of your specialisation during shortlisting.
