UPESSC TGT Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, is filling Assistant Teacher (Graduate Scale) posts, popularly called TGT, under Advertisement No. 07/2026. The posts are in government-aided secondary schools run under the Secondary Education Department of Uttar Pradesh, and you would teach Classes 6 to 10.

The drive covers 17 subjects, from Hindi, English and Mathematics to Agriculture, Sewing and instrumental music, split between boys' (Balak) and girls' (Balika) schools. Your rank depends only on the written test — there is no interview — so a strong score is what gets you a school. The vacancy list comes from the Directorate of Secondary Education, Prayagraj, which also allots schools to selected candidates.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Languages (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu): Hindi has the largest share of seats. Hindi applicants also need Sanskrit at Intermediate level or the Uttar Madhyama exam of the UP Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad.
  • Mathematics, Science and Biology: Science posts need a degree with Physics and Chemistry; Biology posts need Zoology and Botany.
  • Social Science and Commerce: Social Science needs any two of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics in your degree.
  • Home Science, Agriculture and Sewing: Agriculture accepts Agriculture or Horticulture graduates, while Sewing posts look for a Fashion Designing degree.
  • Art (Chitrakala) and Ranjan Kala: Ranjan Kala also needs a diploma from a recognised art school such as Madras, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai or Shantiniketan.
  • Music Vocal and Music Instrumental: Sangeet Visharad (Bhatkhande) or Sangeet Prabhakar (Prayag Sangeet Samiti) holders can apply, but these diplomas earn no merit points.
  • Physical Education: A B.P.Ed or B.P.E. takes the place of the B.Ed that every other subject asks for.

Every subject has seats in both boys' and girls' schools, though most are in boys' schools. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC and EWS is worked out subject by subject and school type by school type.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • TET: You need a valid pass certificate of the upper-primary (Class 6-8) TET held by the UP government or the Government of India. The notice requires it to be valid up to 30 June 2027.
  • Girls' schools: Men cannot be appointed in girls' institutions; the only exception is blind candidates for music posts.
  • Choice of school type: Women can apply for boys' or girls' schools, but you must pick only one of the two per subject. If you submit more than one form for a subject, only the last one counts.
  • Domicile and reservation: Reserved-category benefits go only to UP domicile candidates; others compete as General. A woman's caste certificate must come from her father's side.
  • Locked details: Category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after you finally submit the form. Your date of birth is taken only from your High School certificate.
  • Marriage rule: Anyone with more than one living spouse is not eligible unless the Governor grants an exemption.
  • Working candidates: Bring a no-objection certificate from your employer to document verification.
  • Medical fitness: Before final appointment you must submit a fitness certificate from a government hospital or PHC medical officer.
  • Exam centres: Centres are at district headquarters, and you can be allotted any district. Writing the exam at a different centre or subject cancels your candidature.
  • Disabled candidates: A scribe and 20 extra minutes per hour are allowed; register with the commission at least a week before the exam.
  • No travel allowance: No TA or DA is paid for the written exam or document verification.
  • No guarantee: Making the select list does not by itself give you a right to appointment; the appointment letter depends on document checks.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are online only, and you first need a One Time Registration (OTR) ID on the commission's portal — the same ID works for every UPESSC exam. Fill the form in English, upload your photo and signature as JPG files of 10-100 KB, and upload certificates as PDFs of 20-200 KB.

Keep three printouts of the submitted form; two of them go with your document sets at verification. For portal problems, the technical helpline is 08448573939 (Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6 PM) or Support@upessc.org.
