BHU JRF Geology Recruitment 2026: Overview
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a research project in its Department of Geology, Institute of Science, Varanasi. The fellowship is part of an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) Advanced Research Grant project called "Indian Ocean paleothermometry and monsoon evolution using foraminiferal trace element and isotopic proxies" (BHU project code P-07/1382).
The project is led by Dr. Dinesh Kumar Naik, the Principal Investigator. In plain words, the team uses the chemistry of foraminifera (tiny marine microfossils) to work out past Indian Ocean temperatures and how the monsoon changed over time. If you have an M.Sc in Geology with NET or GATE and want to start a research career in paleoclimate or marine geochemistry, this post fits you well.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project-based post: The appointment is temporary and ends with the project. The ANRF grant is sanctioned for five years.
- Fellowship source: Your fellowship and HRA are paid from the ANRF project grant, not from a regular BHU pay scale.
- Shortlisting: Only shortlisted candidates get an email about the interview, so keep checking the email address you give in your CV.
- Interview mode: The interview may be held online or in person.
- No travel allowance: BHU pays no TA/DA for attending the interview.
- Closing rule: The advertisement, dated 22 October 2026, asks for applications to reach within 21 days of that date. The BHU vacancy page shows its own last date, so send your application early to be safe.
