Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow for a sepsis research project in the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics, Institute of Science. If you have a first-class postgraduate degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular & Human Genetics, Zoology, Animal Science or Life Sciences along with a qualified CSIR-UGC NET/GATE, you can apply offline or by email. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

BHU, one of India's largest central universities established in 1916, has advertised 1 Junior Research Fellow position under a research project (Code: P-07/1357) funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), New Delhi, titled "Identification of early diagnostic molecules in sepsis patients as a marker for sepsis-associated thrombosis." The position is based in the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics at the Institute of Science, BHU, Varanasi. This post is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, which runs for a maximum of 3 years. It is a good opportunity for life sciences postgraduates with a NET/GATE qualification who want hands-on research experience in clinical and molecular biology.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: First-class postgraduate degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular & Human Genetics, Zoology, Animal Science or Life Sciences, with a qualified CSIR-UGC NET or GATE.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience in isolating blood cells (neutrophils) and platelets, and experience handling mice, will be preferred.

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit is 35 years.
  • Age Relaxation: 3 years for OBC candidates, and 5 years for SC/ST, physically handicapped and female candidates, as per Government of India rules.

Salary

  • You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month plus 20% HRA for the first two years.
  • The fellowship increases to Rs. 42,000 per month plus 20% HRA in the third year.

Selection Process

Selection is based on:

  1. Shortlisting of applications based on qualification and desirable experience.
  2. Interview — shortlisted candidates will be notified by email for an online or physical interview.

No TA/DA will be paid if you are called for a physical interview.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments related to sepsis and thrombosis biomarker research
  • Isolate and analyze blood cells such as neutrophils and platelets from patient/animal samples
  • Assist in animal (mice) handling and experimental procedures as per protocol
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and experiment data
  • Prepare samples and reagents required for ongoing research
  • Support the Principal Investigator in data analysis and report preparation
  • Follow laboratory safety and ethical research guidelines
