The Allahabad High Court is hiring 1 Special Judicial Magistrate (SJM) for Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh. The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad has issued a notice inviting applications for 1 vacancy of Special Judicial Magistrate (SJM) in Barabanki district. Selection Process

  1. Submission of Application: Send your application to the District Judge of Barabanki (NOT directly to the High Court)
  2. Scrutiny by District Judge: The District Judge will scrutinise the applications and forward only suitable applications with his remarks to the High Court
  3. Final Selection by High Court: The High Court will make the final selection from the forwarded applications

Applications sent directly to the High Court will be rejected and will not be processed further.

  2. Fill in all the columns of the form — incomplete forms will be rejected
  3. Affix a self-attested passport-size photograph on the form
  4. Attach self-attested copies of: educational certificates (High School, Intermediate, Graduation, LL.B.), date of birth proof, and any other relevant documents
  5. Attach self-attested photocopies of character roll entries of the last 5 years of your Government service (not required for ex-SJMs appointed by the UP Government)
  6. If you are an ex-SJM applying for re-appointment, enclose 4 best judgments delivered while holding SJM/SMM post
  7. Mention details of post held under Government at the time of retirement (institution, designation, duration, pay scale, date of retirement)
  8. Submit the complete application to the District Judge of Barabanki (NOT to the High Court directly) on or before 10 July 2026

Responsibilities

  • Try and dispose of cases assigned by the High Court within Barabanki district jurisdiction
  • Deliver judgments and orders as per the Code of Criminal Procedure
  • Maintain court records, case diaries, and judgment registers
  • Conduct trial proceedings impartially and according to procedural law
  • Hear bail applications and pass appropriate orders
  • Coordinate with the District Judge of Barabanki on administrative matters
  • Follow guidelines and notifications issued by the High Court from time to time
  • Maintain confidentiality and judicial decorum at all times

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Degree in Law (LL.B.) or well experienced in legal affairs to the satisfaction of the High Court

Preferred Qualification

Prior experience as a Special Judicial Magistrate (SJM) or Special Metropolitan Magistrate (SMM)

Required Skills

Knowledge of criminal procedure, judgment writing, legal interpretation, court administration, impartial decision-making
