The Allahabad High Court is hiring 1 Special Judicial Magistrate (SJM) for Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh. The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad has issued a notice inviting applications for 1 vacancy of Special Judicial Magistrate (SJM) in Barabanki district. This post is reserved for serving or retired Government Servants who possess a law degree or are well experienced in legal affairs to the satisfaction of the High Court. This is a fixed-term appointment — the term of office is four years from the date of joining or until the candidate attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

Who Can Apply?

• Government Service: You must currently hold or have held any post under the Government
• Qualification: You must possess a degree of law (LL.B.), OR be well experienced in relation to legal affairs to the satisfaction of the High Court
• Ex-SJMs/SMMs appointed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh are also eligible to re-apply
• Ex-SJMs applying for re-appointment must enclose 4 best judgments delivered while holding the post of SJM/SMM

Age Limit

• No specific minimum or maximum age is mentioned
• The term of office ends when the candidate attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier
• So practically, applicants should be below 70 years of age at the time of joining

Salary

• Fixed Honorarium: Rs. 45,000 per month
• Conveyance Allowance: Rs. 5,000 per month
• Total: Rs. 50,000 per month
• Term of Office: 4 years from the date of joining or until age 70, whichever is earlier

Selection Process

1. Submission of Application: Send your application to the District Judge of Barabanki (NOT directly to the High Court)
2. Scrutiny by District Judge: The District Judge will scrutinise the applications and forward only suitable applications with his remarks to the High Court
3. Final Selection by High Court: The High Court will make the final selection from the forwarded applications

Applications sent directly to the High Court will be rejected and will not be processed further.

How to Apply

1. Download the prescribed application form from the Allahabad High Court website at allahabadhighcourt.in
2. Fill in all the columns of the form — incomplete forms will be rejected
3. Affix a self-attested passport-size photograph on the form
4. Attach self-attested copies of: educational certificates (High School, Intermediate, Graduation, LL.B.), date of birth proof, and any other relevant documents
5. Attach self-attested photocopies of character roll entries of the last 5 years of your Government service (not required for ex-SJMs appointed by the UP Government)
6. If you are an ex-SJM applying for re-appointment, enclose 4 best judgments delivered while holding SJM/SMM post
7. Mention details of post held under Government at the time of retirement (institution, designation, duration, pay scale, date of retirement)
8. Submit the complete application to the District Judge of Barabanki (NOT to the High Court directly) on or before 10 July 2026

• Try and dispose of cases assigned by the High Court within Barabanki district jurisdiction

• Coordinate with the District Judge of Barabanki on administrative matters

• Maintain confidentiality and judicial decorum at all times
